New Passports applicants

Hi All,

Has anyone out there recently applied for a passport? My DH and I applied on January 16th. I keep checking the site they provided and am getting a little concerned that my application is not showing up as received/in process.

Anyone else experience this? How long did it take to get your passport?

We have some friends that applied for their passports the week AFTER Thanksgiving and they still don't have them in hand. Apparently the govt wasn't prepared for a huge surge in passport applications or something because when we got ours we did it just before the prices were raised and had them in about 4 weeks.

Our friends have called the # for the passport office and talked to several people. They've been told for 3 weeks that they were in the mail and that they should be getting them in the next few days and then they've been told they are still being processed and they can't tell them when they will send them out.

What a pain in the rump! They had a trip scheduled for next week to go to Italy for their Anniversary and had to postpone it because they don't have the passports. Stupid them thinking they needed almost 3 months to get their passports.

Oh WOW! I will definitely keep an eye on it. We were told that we would have it by February 28th. As long as we have it by April 24th - the day before we leave for the Grand Cayman Island BTW!!! - we should be all set. Thanks for the heads up hydster!!!

That reminds me of the IRS site....they never show it "received" until the day they mail your refund. It usually says they received it about 2 days prior to issuing the check. fuzzy math

Someone was getting the paperwork at the post office the other day, the postal worker said they were telling them 10-12 weeks for new applications right now.

We applied for ours on December 26th and got them on January 25th about 5 weeks.

We received ours in less than 2 weeks after applying Jan.16th but we paid for expedited service. It cost more but it was worth it for peace of mind.
