Are the flights outrageous? I have been the past 2 MG weeks but drove. I really want to fly this time and figured the rates may be crazy around that time?

Any ideas?

thanks

We went this year a flew. I paid almost $400 per person on Southwest and those were the cheapest flights I could get and I booked about 4 months early. Crazy that MSY to MCO is blacked out of all the deals. Used to be very reasonable.

That is what I was worried about. I started looking at them last year for 2013 but i was late in the game and was hoping that was the reason they were so high. Flights open July 22 for March 2014. Really hoping to get them for $300 or less.

I live in Biloxi and was also thinking about going this year and possibly flying. We have never been before during Mardi Gras. I think it comes down to how flexible you can be. If you look on Kayak.com and pick flexible dates, it is $300 rt. So about $50 more than if you flew next month.

Try checking flights out of Gulfport to Tampa or Sanford - often times there are good deals flying into those alternate airports. Both airports are within about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours from WDW. There will be a rental car cost, but we always prefer to have a rental car because we find that WDW transportation does not always meet our needs.

I had never tried Kayak-thanks for the tip!

I looked into this but it seems by the time I add the rental car it's just as expensive. I will keep my fingers crossed Southwest has decent prices come out.

If you ready to purchase your flight tickets now, coke rewards has $20 off round trip southwest flights - I just booked flights for late August to Orlando non stop from NOLA 2 tix $500.40 - that's about as good as it gets price wise - good luck

I go take a look. I hadn't used points in a while and they expired :(

we booked in August and paid 388 each. 3 of us flew out the friday before and got back mardi gras day.

Update-

Booked this morning paid $289 per person round trip. Great flights too. Out Mon at 9:20am, leave Orlando 9pm friday!

I live in Slidell and have flown out of Gulfport. If you can make it work, it's a great little airport. Easy to park and get in and out of... Just my two cents!

I agree that Gulfport is a great airport, but Southwest doesn't fly from here and there aren't any direct flights from GPT to MCO. At least not last time I checked. Do you remember what you paid last time you flew from there?

We are driving this year with 6 of us going. It just isn't economical to do flights anymore with as many people as we bring.

Plus, by the time you leave 2-3 hours early for the airport, fly 1-2 hours (if you have a direct flight) in the air, take another 1-2 hours to get off the airplane/get luggage and then wait for the magical express, driving is almost quicker? :)

I bet the MSY->MCO flight route is packed during mardi gras!

EDIT: wow just looked at southwest and nonstop flights seem to be sold out/selling out for that week to orlando.
