New Orleans at the End of February with Kids

Hello all,
I have seen a few past threads on New Orleans so I thought I would check here. We are cruising out of New Orleans on NCL the last week of February. We leave port on Sunday and arrive on Friday. So we will have a full day in town. We are traveling with a 13 year old and a 7 year old. Other than introducing them to some wonderful food and suggestions on family friendly activities. And maybe family friendly restaurants as well. I was thinking maybe Mardi Gras World. Wondering if February is not exactly the best time for a Swamp Boat tour. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

If the kids are animal-oriented, the Audubon Aquarium recently reopened after a major remodel and is wonderful. I would also recommend the Audubon Zoo.

It can be damp and chilly in February, so I would not book a swamp boat tour until you were more sure of the weather.

The New Orleans Jazz (in the French Quarter) National Historical Park and the Jean Lafitte (both in the French Quarter and outside of town) National Historical Park are both worth a visit. The French Quarter is fine for families in the daytime.

Commander's Palace and Mother's were our two favorite places we ate in NOLA. We stayed at the Hotel Monteleone on Royal street which is in the heart of the French quarter but also on the classier side as compared to Bourbon street and its plethora of adult venues (it also doesn't smell as bad). We did a fun haunted spots walking tour at night. We also did a ride on the Natchez Riverboat which was neat to go up the Mississippi.

French market is cool and I agree that the FQ (aside from Bourbon St) is pretty family friendly. I highly suggest Loretta's Pralines as they are the best in NOLA. If you take a trolly to the garden district, check out the Columns hotel. Once it gets to evening though, be aware that your kids might get an eyeful of boobs and booze.
