Does this apply for for DVC reservations as well? If not do you think they will implement this for DVC? TIA!

And since the Disney IT shop is running it, do you think it will work?

(My vote is on NO! They can't set up a good basic hotel reservation system!)

The reports on wdwinfo.com and dvcnews.com say that yes, the dvc resorts will be included in the on-line check-in.

It doesn't sound like it will offer any great advantage since it won't guarantee a room available when you show up. The administrative aspects, charge card etc would be nice, but I don't see a major draw for myself personally.

Actually, I don't see it being too beneficial for us either, since we tend to travel during less busy seasons and have rarely waited at check-in for more than 5 minutes. However, I can definitely see it being advantageous during very busy periods. We did travel only ONE time to WDW during Christmas week (NEVER again) and I do remember the check-in line at the BWV was very long.

I can't see any advantage, either, especially since that little addition about having to handle everything in the same way you checked in. I took that to mean that if I didn't like the room I was assigned, I would have to take care of it online, since I checked in online.  I can't see any reason why someone would WANT to check in online, can you??

It would appear that the online check in will shorten the process in person since they will take the credit card information that way as opposed to in person. There is no mention of assigning rooms this way, however. That will remain the same ( room ready or pre-assigning depending on resort) as far as what has been released thus far.

This whole thing scares me a bit...no personal communication! I hope if it works out for them they do not force people to check in this way!

Since we pay for the Front Desk with our dues, do you think that our dues will go down? :cool1:

Actually it will probably go up..........with the way Disney handles anything online have you noticed any of it to actually work? Think of how much time it will add to the check in process with all the CM's having to explain who, what, when and how the "online" system screwed their entire reservation up:rotfl2: Thus increasing our dues:teacher:

So true!!!!!

IMHO, it could be beneficial for the larger CRO resorts. I've never experienced long waits for checking into any of the DVC resorts, but whenever I've gone over to some of the larger non-DVC ones (for the restaurants, boat rentals, etc.) the lobby check-in areas have often been packed!:scared1:
And I'm not talking about during the "busy" seasons, either...:sad2:

when OKW was the only one. DVC did this.

Loved it!!!

generally got exactly the room location that wanted.

the room was always ready when we came.

you just picked up the package and went to your room or park.

It was nice!

they did away with it - because they say not enough members were using it.

hopefully - the room controllers and housekeeping will talk to each other and you will get a room ready.

We've had a zero wait time and very swift check-ins for our last three BWV trips (in Sept/Oct). A line at the desk hasn't been the problem - the wait for the room to be ready has been the hang up (5:30 pm and nearly 5 pm the last two trips). I'd gladly trade standing in line for 15 or 20 minutes for being able to get into a room sooner. But I doubt that's gonna happen.

DisFlan

I tend to agree with those who are skeptical of any such system being operated by Disney's tech people.

While they are competent, good intentioned and, from recent interaction with Parks and Resorts Online regarding possible employment, a great many of them really do 'get it' when it comes to understanding the way we faithful feel about our WDW experience, there is a tendency for Disney's online offerings to promote their brand at the expense of providing simple tools for their users to get things done in a straightforward manner.

Have a magical day!

... so true. I used ME for the first time this summer. It was wonderful. Once I found the ME counter, I got out my ME "ticket" the CM scanned it and told me what bus line to stand in. Meanwhile, the remaining ME counters were full of guests that looked like they had been there 10+ minutes. How can guests make something so easy so time consuming?

Tell me about that. We arrived at the DME about 9:30pm on 11/21. Only 3 CM's, one working with a group of 6. When we got on the bus to SSR, I was chatting with a woman who had been about 3 people ahead of me in line. She asked about the group of 6, as they had been there for more than 10+minutes.

They didn't put the yellow tags on their bags!! :confused3 . What did they think those were for? So the CM was having to get all their bag claim tags.

And the unfortunate thing is we have taken the DME about 5 times and there is always someone who takes forever checking in. I think it's even worse when it's a DCL sailing day.
