I'm a new member here but an experienced camper. This will be our first trip to Fort Wilderness- a gift to our 17 year old daughter who will be graduating high school this June.

I made reservations in August 2010 for husband, daughter, daughter's friend, myself and our 2 chocolate labs.

I am a bit worried about being assigned to a pet loop. My labs have never been boarded and I would hate to be in the position of not being able to keep them with us on site. Is there a way I can somehow make our odds better that we won't have to kennel them?

Our plans are for the girls to be spending the time in the theme parks while the husband and I spend our time at the campground with the dogs. Neither of us is a real theme park enthusiast.

Anything significant we should know as first time Ft. Wilderness campers with dogs?

:welcome: You really shouldn't have a problem.
Just be sure to let them know you will have your "puppies" with you when you make the reservation..They have been know to put pets on "non" pet loops and vice/versa. We no longer have a dog but we were assigned to a pet loop.

Also 5 days before you arrive you can call or fax a reminder that you want a pet friendly loop.

There are numerous areas that you can't go with the pups so just watch the signs.

Have a great time.

As long as you put pet on your reservation, you're good. :thumbsup2
There is a $5.00 a day pet fee/charge. Camping at The Fort is like camping anywhere else with pets. If they are sociable and like to run and play, visit the dog park. There are also several loops with dog walks. They will love sniffing/walking the loops. We have to literally force our dog to come in the camper so we can get a shower. :lmao:

Good idea for a senior trip.
When their graduation times came, I took both of my DD's & their friends on Disney senior trips.

Pets are not a problem. Even if the pet loops are full, which I would doubt for that time of year, they would just put you in a regular loop & you can still keep your pet.

They will give you a list of rules for the pets. But mostly, just obey the signs posted when you are walking them.

PS: Try the parks - you will probably be surprised and enjoy them.

This might also help you to see what you might request for a particular loop.

We went several years ago. it just wasn't our cup of tea. We normally camp in the Adirondacks with no hook ups and enjoy the quiet, kayaking, etc. This will be maybe our 6th trip to have hookups of any kind.

Thanks for the feedback. I will fax them 5 days before and remind them about the dogs. Glad to hear and read that Ft. Wilderness is dog friendly.

Just because there are hookups, doesn't mean you have to use them. If you are used to not hooking up, why bother? The comfort stations are really, really, really nice. We only plug in. Because we are from MN and come down in the winter, it doesn't make sense to summerize and then winterize the MH again just for two weeks. We do just fine using the comfort stations with three little girls, my mother and my wife on site.
