Hi All,

So I am a new DVC member & I would like to book my first DVC vacation. My home resort is SSR but I would like to book in the Boardwalk Villas in January of 2011 (1/16/10 - 1/22/10). So, my UY is April so I just got my first deposit of points on 4/2010. The stay that I am looking at would be 127 points.

What do I do? I know that I will not be using any points this year, so can I Bank my 2010 points now? If so when will they expire?

Ok so then I want to make my reservation at the Boardwalk Villas, which I think I can do in June since that would be 7 months. Do I have to tell them that I am using 120 points from 2010 and then borrowing 7 points from 2011?

Help!!!! I am so lost with this stuff.

Thanks,

SanTrina

A trip in January 2011 is in your 2010 use year (it runs from April 2010 - March 2011). So you don't need to bank anything.

If you only have 120 points, then you will be using all of your current 2010 points and borrowing 7 from 2011.

You can call to book a stay at your non-home resort 7 months out, so as you said, June 16.

The one thing I would add to vicki_c's post is that MS can talk you through the whole reservation process once you call. They should explain that since you have 120 pts available but need 127, you will have to borrow 7 points from next year. Not all MS CMs are created equal--some go out of their way to help and explain things, while others won't. Overall, however, I've found them to be quite helpful. Good luck!

To answer your 2nd question, with an April use year you have until November 30 to bank any or all of your points. I would not bank them now, but wait until November to make that decision. Remember, once you bank points, you cannot "unbank" them. :)

One way that helps me remember what I can use for trips is to figure out the UY my trip will happen and go from there.

Since you have an April UY, it will run from April 1st through March 31st, of the following year.

A Jan. 2011 trip will take place in your April 2010 UY and can be "paid" for with banked 2009 points, 2010 UY points, and borrowed points from 2011.

Since you are traveling in the 2010 UY, as PP mentioned, you do not want to bank them as you will need them to book that January trip.

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone know how much it would cost for the extra 7 points if I wanted to pay cash?

$15 per point or $105.00 total, including tax.

From the member website:

This new option, designed as an alternative to borrowing from next year's allotment, allows Members the option of paying for a one-time assignment of as many as 24 vacation points from Disney Vacation Development, Inc., for $15 a vacation point ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) to complete their reservation. (A receipt is available upon request.)

Members may use these vacation points to book Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection Resorts, Disney Cruise Line® voyages, Adventures by Disney experiences and World Passport Collection resorts.
