New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

I'm totally expecting park hours to change that day. Right now it's scheduled 9am-8pm with Wishes at 8pm. I'm so so so hoping they keep Wishes scheduled for 8pm. My kids are usually in bed by 7 (my little one even earlier) but I think I can push the night a little later for Wishes, my son would absolutely LOVE it! I will be way more bummed about that than opening an hour earlier.

Most likely the time change will be an 8AM park opening. You PPO breakfast will no longer be PPO, so you will be an hour behind. Allowing folks onto Main Street early will not set guests behind, it just changes their advantage over those who enter at park opening. Park opening changes take any advantage away.

So has anyone noticed what is happening with non on site guests this morning? I guess it hard to see/know unless you just happen to be near when one comes up. I mean, their tickets/bands won't work at the turnstiles, right?

Prefacing this by saying you can feel whatever you want and this is just my opinion
The analogy of a favorite ride down is not the best one, in my opinion.
Yes going to Disney and finding a favorite ride is down is disappointing, cause when you bought the ticket Disney showed the ride would be open and operating from xx time to xx time.
With a dinning reservation if you made the reservation and for whatever reason the restaurant had to close then it would be the same situation. Not having an experience that is not talked about, promised, mentioned, although is disappointing shouldn't be the main reason to book something
Now the PPO tours that said you had a chance to grab pictures before the crowds, that I would reevaluate.
Well put. Explained much better than I have

They should work fine. Last year, I think it was October I happen to go to MK one morning without realizing that it was morning EMH day. I got to the entrance around 8:15am for a 9am opening and I noticed the tapstiles opened so I decided to just try and get in, I tapped and was let in. I walked over to FL and saw that cm were checking bands at the rides

At emh this morning and the MK. They are allowing resort guests in early, stopping us at the castle and tomorrowland. Early breakfasts are entering with the rest of us.
No rush but when you get a chance I would love to read more about your experience. When did you arrive? Did you go to a certain set of tapstyles? When did they let you in? Did you have to squeeze past a lot of non-resort guests to get to the tapstyles or was it fairly empty/easy at that area? How long were you inside before everyone else was let in? And any other info you would like to relate! Thanks, in advance!

Ditto on the preface that people have a right to feel disappointed or not, etc...

Everyone has different reasons for how they plan their trips. We're a family that visits once every year or two...For me, the main reasons that I have made PPO ADRs is to (1) eat in the restaurant and (2) not waste valuable morning touring time in the restaurant. Since I've been able to book the reservation before the park opens, I think that while not promised, at the time of booking I have been able to meet these two goals, since the reservation has been booked for a time that park is not open (not to sound too redundant). Other perks, when it's happened, have been a bonus. When the hours change, and I anticipate that they will, I am disappointed not because I feel like I was promised some type of non-explicit perk, but because now I am no longer meeting my second goal and I have to make a choice whether to waste that valuable morning time in a restaurant, which generally I don't since we don't get there that frequently. Then I'm disappointed that it's tough to reschedule that ADR for a better time, given that it's usually later in the game, although that's what we did last year. However, I know this is how it works and there are not guarantees, so I just roll with it. Our next trip, we're planning lunches instead of breakfasts for a mid-day break, but just speaking to past experiences...

Having said that, I'm looking forward to this change (although I will miss the train show), and I'm interested to see how it works for EMH mornings! I am also interested in morning pastries...

so are they scanning EMH resort guests only at the tomorrowland and fantasyland bridge?
They are scanning at the tapstiles. Holding resort guests at the checkpoints before 8. We don't know at what point they are allowing non resort guests into the tapstiles, but we know they are allowing them on to Main Street before 8:15 and at that time they had put ropes up at all hub exits. The cms don't know what's going on as to how they are filtering resort vs non resort before 9.

We have 3 MK days planned. One EMH so no Main Street breakfast on that day...but the other two days, I am planning that Mickey Waffle plate with the bacon one day and the cronut one day! Yum! But then I want to shop, too..... Decisions, decisions. :)

There were 6 or so tapstiles open including the AP that we used. Just an aside, if you're AP, they allow others with you to enter. They let us in main st around 7:45, would have earlier but the crane was out. Non resort guests would not have been allowed past the tapstiles when we arrived at 7:15. I don't know when they'll allow non resorts in the Tapstiles. Non resort guests were on main by 8:15.

Thank you so much for the replies! Enjoy your MK day!

No problem! We took the express over to Epcot and I'm kicked back now with a Starbucks looking at the fountains now! Weather is gorgeous!
If you don't mind, I have a few more questions. Again, no rush on answering. Once you got in at 7:45 with just EMH and PPO people, were you able to just go over to Tomorrowland or Fantasyland (no ropes up)? Were there signs for EMH people as far as guiding them to the appropriate areas? Could you only go on the right of the castle? And if there were no ropes up initially, did they put them up once they let everyone in? Just trying to get a feel for it. And I do realize it may change before our trip in June, but I figured I would get a head start on my research! I'm just a tad obsessed...lol.

They made an announcement before letting us on to Main Street telling us where the checkpoints were. They had stop points for fantasy and tomorrow land where they held us till 8. Castle breakfast had their own check in point. They rope walked us to SDMT at 8.

Great! Thanks again!

I mentioned this in another thread a few days ago. If you like the idea of strolling through an nearly empty park, there is another option. Park closing ADR. I have had late dinners at several parks. When I get out the park is nearly empty. It is truly beautiful.

Seeing as how Disney is now selling dining packages that include an early breakfast, and they're advertising it with quotes like "be among the first to ride....", "first access to the park", etc., AND its targeted to the three most popular Fantasyland rides, I'm pretty darn sure Disney knew all too well why a LOT of people were making PPO ADRs....and it wasn't all for the overpriced food.

I think that the "benefits" were never promised to anyone, and that is why so many folks were annoyed when park hours would change.

You would be wrong. If the folks who book PPO meal are trying to jump start the crowd, then they now are back to an even playing field.

.

None said ever that those "benefits" were promised or guarantee. But many of us said that without those benefits we wouldn't have made the PPO ADR and we would have choose something else or cancel.
We know that and that is why people are canceling their PPO ADR.

The BOG crowd might have impacted a decision to sell Early Morning Hours, which is what I believe you are describing. The package includes an early entry, unlimited access to three attractions for a period of time, and breakfast.

Right - my point being Disney certainly knew full well that people were booking BOG, and CP before it (for ETWB and PP), so that they could get those "other" bonuses that some here are suggesting Disney somehow wasn't aware of or concerned with when they made this change in the entry procedures.

Not only did they KNOW that people were willing to pay for those other bonuses, they were smart enough to capitalize on it by charging even MORE than an ADR, but then offering a couple of other high demand rides. Genius, really.
