Planet Hollywood globe to get a "turn of the 20th century" observatory look, as well as some menu changes from celebrity chefs.

Love all the new food options coming to DTD. This new version of planet Hollywood has been known about for a while since it was in the 3d model at D23 and in the original announcement of Disney springs. Surprised they haven't announced the hangar yet next to the boathouse as that is well along in the construction process.

I was hoping planet Hollywood would get a wrecking ball...

It's a monument to failure...they seriously can't let it go?
Well it's getting a big change and new theme. This is actually the first I've heard that they are still keeping planet Hollywood in the name rather than just the observatory. Planet Hollywood has remained popular and busy all the time so it makes sense that it isn't going from that stand point.

It looks like (in the concept art) the logo is changing to that of the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Vegas. Not sure if that's chain-wide or just that it fits better in Disney Springs?

Put me in the category that they need to change the food/service before any change to the outside of the building would entice me to dine there.

There is no "chain"...there's a handful of spots propped up under a "puppet state" arrangement.

It's was just a terrible idea...and the fact that Disney continues to even let the sign stay up kinda gives it a bit of a stink at downtown.

They shoulda knocked it down and started from scratch with a new building...

The chain was completely destroyed by 99-2000

And that captain crunch chicken sucks...

Last time I ate there was 2012. We had good meals nothing exceptional but nothing bad.

I like the idea of the new style...hope it looks more steampunk/jules verne style when it's done.

I agree it seems silly to keep the Planet Hollywood namesake, as IMO it hasn't had anything good associated with the name since the first couple of years it was open.

It looks like they're changing the entrance to the restaurant also.

So is the current Globe that houses Planet Hollywood being replaced entirely or just given a massive refurbishment?

Massive refurb. The building itself will stay but the outside won't be a globe anymore. I would also assume the inside would get some extensive work as well.

I think the problem here is that everyone gets fixated on believing they are getting bad service and bad food before walking into the establishment. I eat at Planet Hollywood every time I visit because I love the food and the service was never bad. On top of that, the props get switched out enough that there is something new to see each vacation. I am also a big fan of the Chicken Crunch and I hope it stays!

I are there several
Times... Last being around 2002

Nothing good to say about it. Rainforest and Trex are 5x better...and they aren't really any good

I must say when Planet Hollywood first opened and there was no west side, the big blue glow was an absolutely perfect accompaniment to the search lights and sign and rest of pleasure Island. The first time I saw it the line to get in was all the way down the stairs. I only ate there once, that was many years later and I only got apps, so I he no comment on the food. But when it and Pleasure Island were these two bright spots in a sea of dark at night it was amazing.

I never had bad service or food here either.... same was true of the ones we went to on Hawaiian islands (Oahu and Maui but I think both locations were closed years ago).

London one was my favorite by far and I think this one is still going strong!

We tried it a 2nd time, hoping for better service...nope, it was sloooooow. Like, have a 6pm ADR and if you are lucky, you might be infront of MK after Wishes started.
Teppan Edo takes a long time, and is more expensive, but it's great food, the chefs hold kids attention better than whatever Planet Hollywood has going.
I guess, to me, Sci-Fi is a much better implementation of a movie themed restaurant.

We will be sad to see the change. We always have an amazing experience and great food there! :drinking1

Hmmmmm the only thing that attracted me to go there in the first place was the "cool" globe shape.
