I have the Canon 50mm 1.8, but when I was at my sister's graduation in Regina, the lens wouldn't focus properly. It's been iffy, and it's actually my second one, so I thought I should get a new lens to replace it before I left for Spain for World Youth Day this Tuesday...

I'd been thinking about getting an UWA lens for a while, but now I wanted a fast prime too.... so....

I went all out and bought two new lenses from an online camera store here in Canada. I had been looking here at a local store at the Canon UWA lens, but that was almost $1000. Then I was thinking about the Canon 50mm 1.4 for just under $500. I ended up ordering two Sigmas. 30mm f1.4 and the 10-20mm f4-5.6. I know the UWA isn't the fastest, but the 30mm is the one I wanted for that. The two of them only cost me only $200 more than the Canon lens at the local store, including shipping and taxes. I'm happy. :woohoo:

Ideally, I would have liked more time to play with them before the trip, but I only ordered them at the last minute. Now, let's just hope they get here before I leave. pixiedust:

If I'm happy with a few pictures I'll post some here when I come home. I'm not the best, but I'm learning and I learn a lot from all of you here, even if I "lurk" more than comment. So thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and your pictures with those of us who are still learning!

Congrats!!!!! I absolutely love my Sigma 30mm. And a UWA is on my wish list. :)

You're gonna love them both! The Sigma is a fantastic lens, and an UWA is a must-have for any camera bag!

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to try them out. Again, I won't have the chance to get used to them too much, but I will for sure get a chance in Spain!

This is where I go to learn about new camera supplies, so thank you all for the positive words about the lenses.

They came in yesterday and we leave today! Snapped a few shots with them and I love them so far. Now I need to finish all the last minute packing and printing... taking 27 people overseas is a lot more work than just "chaperoning" as I'm used to! I don't plan to neglect the picture taking though on the way!

I'll share some Spain/WYD pictures when I come home.
