Hoping my Disbuds can help me

I have just accepted a job at a company and they have told me that they hire an outside company (hireright) to verify resume info-FINE They send me a link and I am asked to put in my referral information. Done
Well about 30 minutes later I am email saying they cannot verify my first employer and I need to send a 1099 or W2. Just happens my DH and my son's info is listed on this information not sure why. Anyway I am told I need to FAX it to a 1-800 number.

I find this odd and contacted the HR rep and told her that I didn't feel comfortable faxing this info and all of the info was given to her to verify.

Does this seem strange?? Was I wrong to not fax it? I have had my SS# taken and used before and do not want it to happen again.

Can you make a copy of the document, use a black marker to block out your SS# and then fax it to them? Kind of like a CIA document

If I had to do that to verify employment, I'd have a huge problem since half of the places I have worked in the past are out of business or have merged several times since I last worked there (in particular, one bank I worked at merged or was bought up about 3 or 4 times since I worked there)

It needs to have all of the info so they can verify it is actually your information. I do have a huge issue with it and told my DH that if they have a problem I am going to move on to another company.

I just went thru this with true screen. They would not approve me for the background check because the high school I had graduated from 27 years ago had not got back to them and neither did my 3rd job reference. The place had closed down. I told them I was not sending my tax info or w2s I didn't have it. Finally they got ahold of everyone and I am all set, but when you are waiting on a job this really sucks!! Is this something new I have never had to do that before.
