though they are still not saying what the obstacles will be

Sounds like it will be fun. Have your sound on but maybe low, DH had the site up and I didn't know there was sound. I thought it was cute when I heard it.

Ok, is it just me or does it seem like they are having you do the 5k almost twice. Once for the run and then once for the scavenger hunt? It says you do the run, then you do the obstacle course at the Finish area, then you go back into the park and find the cluses for the scavenger hunt. I wonder if you get your medal before or after the hunt? And I wonder how the time limit will work?

Of course being Disney I am sure they won't be that hard to find, maybe some big balloons with an X marks the spot type thing like they do when you trick or treat at MNSSHP ;)

Still sounds like fun.

I do notice that it will start at 7pm, this is kind of nice, I am sure it is so there will be minimal disturbance for the animals. PLUS the party is form 10pm to midnight, much better than the ToT race where we didn't even start until 10pm.

There is a lot of good info in the FAQ part, no cast/DVC discount and also people who want to see the race WON'T be allowed in the park, just at the start/finish area.

I am going to sign up right away, wonder what the limit will be?

I just found the FAQ part - LOL!

Good info out so far. Can't wait for next week to sign up!

I am so in for this race. I just read the info off to my DH and we are excited. Looks like we will be signing up as a team. Sounds like a race mixed in with a little Amazing Race. How cool!!!! Besides EE is one of our FAVORITE rides. We might be on it from 10PM-12AM - the whole party.

I have a prediction that ToT 13K will be just like this race in October. I believe Disney won't release details of ToT 13K until they see how EEC starts to fill.

I figure they will force us to get a day pass and offer no discounts. The fee was already $60 and I figure they will raise it to $100 and include a tech shirt instead of a cotton one. Hopefully enough AP'ers will complain and we can get Disney to give us discount. Never know.

Also, I figure they will offer more park time(as with EEC) after the complaints of many not getting almost any "party" time or rides.

Any word on if AP holders can give the 1 day park tickets away or do they have to be used by registered racer?

I am the only AP holder in my family so I am going to give my ticket to my youngest son. So for right now I don't mind that you have to get the extra ticket because I have 3 family members I can give them too.

However I think they are doing things better than the ToT race and hopefully these new things they are doing was from a learned lesson for that race. Like starting the race before the party and making everything with the race finalized before the party is to start.

However I wonder the reason for not allowing spectators into AK for the race. I am assuming it has something to do with the animals but maybe it was crowd control because according to my hubby who watched me do the ToT, getting into MGM was terrible and so disorganized.

Sounds interesting! I'm off to check it out.

We are AP holders, so I may be one of the ones complaining about that, but if we have to pay for tickets I guess we could use them the next time Barry's kids come down.

perfectmatch300/Nancy, FYI, the tickets are only good for Sept 26 - Oct 10, 2008. I thought that was a bummer. :(

Here is what is new on Disney's site. It look like no transportation(again) like ToT. Want to bet they change this as nobody can walk to AK like they could to DHS :sad2: Can't they just figure something out:confused3

The have some special Hotel rates which look good!

Specially priced hotel rooms are available for Expedition Everest™ Challenge participants and their friends and family. You are invited to stay "where dreams come true" by booking a room at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort. The following resorts are currently available:

Disney's All Star Sports Resort - $61 a night
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort - $102 a night
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - $155 a night

To reserve a room, please call (407) 938-4868.

Please note: Transportation is not provided. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the event.

Does that just mean that there is no special race transportation? Will there still be disney transportation (buses)?? Or does that stop when the park closes? What time does the park close?
Sorry so many ???s

I'm still hoping to talk dh into this one. I'm a CM and he's a pass holder, so we don't need the tix either. Of course, he isn't a Disney freak like the rest of us, so we may not renew his pass this year. In that case, the tix would work.

I am a little bummed about the way the race seems to be set up. I was thinking it would be a mini-Amazing Race kind of thing. You know, go 1/2 mile, come across an obstacle, complete it to get a clue for the scavenger hunt, go a little further down the line, etc. Instead it looks to be more like a triathalon. Complete the 5K, then do all the obstacles, then the scavenger hunt.

Oh well..... I still hope we're there. I wonder how quickly it'll fill up.

Those are great rates for the hotels - I was thinking go cheap and stay at All Stars but with AKL only $155 I think I can do that for one night.

Oh the decisions!!

I talked to DH about EEC yesterday, and he said, "Make it Happen".

Now I just need to wait until the end of the month to try and snag a 7 month DVC reservation at AKV. I won't register for the race until we have a place to stay.

Sure hope they get some transportation sorted out, as we will likely do Magical Express and Disney Transportation for the weekend. I suppose I could check on a cheap weekend rental if need be, but I was actually looking forward to using ME for a change.

Fot the ToT 13K, Disney said the same thing. Including up to expo that there was no race transporation. They added some transportation late but most people didn't know abouti it. Most people took other transporation to BW and walked to DHS.

If(as stated) Disney doesn't provided transportation, I don't know how you will get there unless you drive or take a cab. I think AK closes around 5:00pm so unless you get there real early and hang around you are out of luck. You could walk from AKL but it there is no sidewalk and narrow grass areas.

The real problem is after the party at midnight. It would be really dangerous walking back in the dark. Even if you get to AKL, you would have to take a bus to DTD and another to your resort.

OK, am I reading what they're saying right? You need a ticket to get into Animal Kingdom for the party, but if you're registered, that's included, correct? Non-participants can get a ticket for $25 for 2 hours of "partying".

The one day ticket you get for registering can only be used @ EPCOT or AK??? Why is that, I wonder? And, I wonder if you can upgrade to a hopper? Man, there are a lot of restrictions (& no transportation). Still, I think I'm going to have to go:rotfl:

Runners get in free to the party. Non runners $25 for 2 hrs.

One day ticket to EPCOT or AK is they want peole in those parks and not in MK or DHS. Trust me know upgrades as they don't give AP'ers any discounts.

Disney always puts lots of restrictions. Sounds like fun but $100:confused3
