I do not know if this has been discussed before but if so, sorry. I was on the phone this morning and booking a HDDR show for Dec 22. Today is the 180 day mark. After the reservation was made the person told me that tables were now assigned at the date that you pick up your tickets and not whoever had booked the earliest. When did this procedure come into effect and what is the reasoning behind it. They do have your money at the time of booking. I just found it odd that they would change it

I really don't see how this can be true. This would cause chaos for cast members trying to set up the hall in between shows. If a party of 8+ fail to pick up their tickets prior to the show and arrive minutes before the performance, how will they accommodate? Throw them in the back? What if multiple parties of 10+ are reserved? etc

I can confirm this wasn't the case last December.

This sounds like news to me. My fiance had just booked our dinner there for early December and didn't have this issue. You were able to select your seating as we have in the past.

I have just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Member Services at DVC and YES, this is true. Their reasoning is because it is just like booking at your resorts as far out as possible and put in a room request ,that they will get it. People also think that if they book early that they will get the front row table, and when they dont, they get mad. It sounds like lame reasoning, but that is what I have been told....twice today. Once by WDW dining and again confirmed by DVC member services. Tickets can be picked up 7 days in advance.

We never picked up tickets when we went to HDDR in February. I completely forgot that there were tickets to pick up. But we were seated anyway and no one asked if we had tickets. :confused3 But we also paid out of pocket. I wonder if that made a difference?

But if it is true that they don't assign seats until tickets are picked up, then that would be a nightmare.

I did not know we would be required to pick up tickets in advance? I booked a ressie for our arrival night so there would be no way to pick up early for us.

I believe that you can pick up your tickets at your resort's guest services if you're staying onsite.

Yes, you can pick up the tickets at your resort upon check in. Having said this, you've brought up another good point that seems unfair about this new process if true.

Don't worry about it. When we there a couple of weeks ago, when we went to the window to check in (we had no intention of picking them up earlier than when we arrived there), they told us that our tickets had already been printed, but there was someone walking around with them, so if we see him, he'll give them to us -- if not, no worries, give our name as we enter the building and they'll hand our tickets to us then. Never saw the guy so we got our tickets as we walked in. We were far from the only ones doing this.

What do they mean by assigned on the day that you pick up your tickets? So, if you pick up your tickets 20 minutes before the show, you would be behind someone who picked up their tickets that morning or the night before at their resort? Not sure I follow...:confused3

There was a post a while back, say 2009, that proved to be true when we went then. They book the seats, by category, inthe order hey ar booked, not picked up. We ended up front row center when we booked at 180 days. HTH

The cast members were very vague when describing the new procedure. My feeling is, that they are still assigning seats the old way(by order of when tix are purchased) but are covering themselves when people start complaining that they are sitting too far back (ie Cat #1) by saying that they have a new procedure which goes by when tix are picked up. I booked at the 180 day mark so I will know more when we go on Dec 22.

When is the earliest you can pickup tickets ( how many days in advance?)

This sounds confusing to me. When we went to see the show, we paid by category. So it didn't matter, because you got seated according to what you paid and your category. I haven't done the show in a couple of years but was thinking again for this year. Do they have one set price now? or do you still pay by category? I would hate to pay to be closer to stage and then get seated far back in a different category :scared1:.

This was our experience too, but we paid for that category of seats.

Never mind....just looked it up as we are planning on doing it. I see it's still by category.

We went in May and paid for Cat 2 seating. We didn't know about picking up tickets till we got there, then they told us someone at the door had them. When we went in, they acted like that was nothing new. Our table? Front center of the stage! I thought the DBF had changed plans, but he denied it. I told the hostess we only paid for Cat 2, she said "well, I guess you got lucky" and winked. It was amazing! That show, however, did not have anyone sitting at Cat 3 though so I think it was just a show that didn't sell.

It is not really fair if reservations are made 170-180 days out, but for early in your stay. You can't pick up the tickets until you physically get there so even if made well in advance you may end up getting bad seats! This sucks!

You still have 3 different categories, The big difference is that some people will phone 180 days in advance to get in the two first rows in front of the stage for Cat #1. I am confused and I talked to disney on the phone twice. This is just what they said so all we can do is figure out how they might do it. I cannot figure out their logic but will sure not lose any sleep over it.
