New Home Resort or Stay with AKV

We just passed ROFR on our 270 point contract at AKV! We know this will be good for us for the next year or so, but we will need to add more points in 2027. We are a family of 4 with two young kids. We look forward to years of memory building. We plan on using our points for 1-2 long trips a year staying in a 1 bedroom. However, we know that in a few years we want to stay twice a year for 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom. All that information to say, should we look to add more animal kingdom points or look towards another home resort? We love animal kingdom but is it unwise to have 600+ points at one resort? If we could get a better deal with SSR, I would imagine that would be ok since a 2 bedroom at AKV isn't too hard to get. However, if we are wanting the points for a 2 bedroom at animal is the cheaper funds worth the possible headaches with different resorts and trying to book at 7 months, instead of 11 months. Regardless of the home resort, we will have all contracts with the same UY.

I'm thinking that with kids you'll be restricted to going at times when school is out so I think getting a 2BR @ AKV for 2 weeks then could be an issue. AKV resales are going for not much more than SSR so I don't think it would be worth the trouble just to save a few bucks by buying SSR (and I own @ SSR).

That’s what we were thinking once diving into the numbers. We would love to do 9-10 days at RIV. Do one 9-10 day trip at AKL and another at 9-10 at Rivera. We just don’t know if we could swing those prices whereas animal kingdom prices are good with us.

Oh. I thought you wanted 2 weeks @ AKV twice a year. You'll still need another 200+ points for a Christmas stay @ AKV so I'd purchase those points there. For the RIV stay, you'll need direct points or RIV resale (which would be the way I would go).

As long as you stick with the same use year you can’t go wrong buying something you like… except RIV or other restricted resort if you’re not buying direct.

I would go with something a little more value conscious that offers something different than AKV maybe like BLT or CCV just to give trips a little more variety but also location is important and CCV and BLT both offer different transportation options than just buses. On the other hand, if you know you don't mind staying anywhere but AKV there's nothing wrong with buying more AKV. Those 1BR values are hard to beat point per point for value. Also AKV does have club level which is a lot more attainable for a 1BR and is a nice perk as well.

Right now would probably be resale. We also like CCV and BLV and mayyyybe beach club.

I agree with Chili. Why not consider another resort with a different vibe? I would not go with SSR to get cheap points. If you plan to take two different trips each year, you can enjoy looking forward to different pools, restaurants and amenities. CCR comes to mind or Poly. I am a believer with sticking with the same UY. At one point I had an assortment of 3 UY's C R A Z Y! Definitely buy a resort you will enjoy in the years to come!
