New Here! -- Veg friendly! -- Updated 4/7 with Animal Kingdom Snacks

Excited to read about your Disney food adventures! The food as Sanaa looks delicious. I have an ADR there as we are staying at AKL for our upcoming trip and I'm glad to see the kids options. My son is not adventurous at all so I'm sure he will get that burger.

Just finding your report and subbing in. I had the same chick peas from Sanaa last month and they eclipsed the meats. Delicious.

I had no idea rain forest even served breakfast. But definitely try Tusker for breakfast if you can. It's the only character meal where we actually love the food too

Glad to see a rainforest breakfast, we have a 8:45 ADR for june..I cant wait it looks amazing...:mickeybar

Great reviews! What would you recommend between garden grill and tucker house? We are going in September and I have ds3 and dd8. I am a vegetarian (I do eat fish sometimes) with meat eaters too lol. I am more concerned with the experience for the kids than for us. Glad to see you had such a great time!

Great review and pics of the RFC. I have never been, I want to take a little one to the location here in San Antonio when he is older.

Following, we have boys similar in size and we want to eat at a lot of the same restaurants. Since we've never been this us a huge help:) can't wait to keep reading :surfweb:

Rainforest café waffles look great! Do you know if they had a full breakfast menu, or was it mostly just a selection of waffles? Not that there's anything wrong with just waffles. :lmao:

Following along! I'm also vegetarian and reviews can be hard to come by. Sanaa is my absolute favorite restaurant on property. So glad you enjoyed it! Can't wait for more.

Your family is beautiful !
-- Thank you!

-- The food at Sanaa was wonderful! Now that it's been about a month since our trip that is still one of the most talked about places. I totally understand about having kids that are not quite as adventurous as the adults and I love that at Sanaa they understand that! Have fun on your trip!

-- Yes, those chick peas were great, I forgot how yummy they are and I really should cook with them more at home! I've heard this is the only Rainforest Cafe that serves breakfast and it was a nice option right at the park. We also
loved our Tusker House breakfast last year :)

How fun! Yes this was a very extertaining breakfast and a great way to start an AK day!

Your kid look JUST like you!! Awesome!
Too funny you say that! Some people say the boys look more like daddy LOL

Thank you! I personally loved the food at Tusker House versus the vegetarian option at Garden Grill and I think my kids had more *fun* at Tusker House also because they get to march around and shake noisemakers (or some kind of instrument LOL) and get out of their seats versus Garden Grill you spend your time sitting down BUT I do absolutely love Garden Grill for what it is, it brings back fun memories for me and I really enjoy the restaurant view revolving with The Land which always amazes me. I just asked my kids out of those two restaurants which they liked better and we had two votes for Garden Grill and one for Tusker House. I would definitely return to both!

Rainforest looks good for breakfast it is hardly ever mentioned for breakfast on here
I heard it is kind of a runner up option if you can't get into a Tusker House breakfast! Last year we managed to do a walkin TH breakfast and had no idea Rainforest Cafe even served breakfast but I did a lot of menu reading while planning our trip and since my kids really wanted to go to RFC I figured we'd try it for breakfast since I could not get a TH breakfast reservation and didn't want to risk not getting in as a walk-in and having to walk all the way back to RFC and not have a reservation there either.

Great review and pics of the RFC. I have never been, I want to take a little one to the location here in San Antonio when he is older.
Oh it is a really fun place, I remember going to the one in Chicago as a kid and the DTD one as a teen and loved them! We have one about two hours away and my dd is wanting to go for her birthday. I did not even know there was one in San Antonio! For us SA can't miss dining is the Tower of Americas (aka San Antonio Space Needle)

-- Thanks! Hope my reviews are helpful! I spend quite a bit of time googling reviews before our trip and the disboards were always a great source of information!!

Rainforest café waffles look great! Do you know if they had a full breakfast menu, or was it mostly just a selection of waffles? Not that there's anything wrong with just waffles. :lmao:
Yes, the do have a full menu! I don't know why waffles were so popular with our family that morning LOL! I remember grandma wanting an omlette when she saw one being served near us and it looked really good. They also had some breakfast pizza thing that I almost went for that sounded interesting.

Following along! I'm also vegetarian and reviews can be hard to come by. Sanaa is my absolute favorite restaurant on property. So glad you enjoyed it! Can't wait for more.
-- I completely understand why Sanaa was getting such high marks from vegetarians after eatting there. At first I didn't think there was that much selection but there really is once you start to order and man those appetizers were enough to make a meal out of in themselves!

Our Animal Kingdom day lunch was at Tusker House. This was our second ever visit to Tusker House, during our April 2014 visit we were able to snag a walk-in breakfast!

Here are my kids with their "guide" chatting him up as he explained the buffet...

The buffet room, this really is a huge buffet and it allows for moving from station to station without having to wait in a long buffet line.

Character interactions were fun, I took a ton of pictures with all of the kids and each character and a few with just 'boys and...' or 'girls only' for my daughter (she loves this!) so worry not, everyone got their pictures with everyone, I will just share here one with each character available...

Boys and safari Mickey

Girls only with Daisy :)

Everyone with Donald, this is Donald's Safari Lunch don't forget LOL

with Goofy

Kind of blurry but here was Donald leading the Safari parade

My daughter had to get a photo taken with the shaker instrument she used in the parade before returning it to the basket

And what you're all here for, the food pics!! Here is a child picked buffet plate, I think they all pretty much went for the same kid safe options: macaroni and cheese, green beans, mini corn dogs...the corn dogs were a huge hit with my crew!

My little guy with his salad plate and juice cup, yes, the yummy breakfast Jungle Juice is also available at lunch! I had some too!

And here is my overloaded plate of deliciousness...going clockwise from bottom, a delicious and moist cornbread, watermelon feta salad, pearl couscous, vegetarian samosas (pea and potato), green beans, and a roasted cabbage and root vegetable dish. All of these were extra yummy! Vegetarian options were so many here and I loved everything, especially the samosas! I think I had a second salad plate but I must not have photographed it.

Now please don't think this dessert plate was all mine, although if you want to eat a huge plate of desserts, more power to ya, I'm not going to judge :) ! To save time I just went and got a large plate and made a dessert sampler for the whole table (two adults and three children). From bottom and clockwise, chocolate coconut bar, lemon bar, baklava, strawberry mousse in chocolate shell, mararoons, passion fruit tartlets, carrot cake, and in the center a molten chocolate cake. The bars were meh to the, I think I just had a little sliver and that was enough, baklava was grandmas favorite, kids liked the mousse and molten cake (I think they went up and got a couple extras of that) macaroons were good, carrot cake was very good, but my personal favorite was the passion fruit tartlet, oh my that was delicious! So tangy and tart, I loved it.

And just for fun here is a picture from our breakfast in April 2014, also at Tusker House but we were seated in a different room (with a lot more windows!) all the rooms empty into the central buffet room.

Thanks for reading along :)

Mmm, Tusker House. We've only ever done breakfast, but your lunch looks wonderful. Glad they had so many veggie options for ya. And you can't beat the character parade.

We have not been to Tusker House, but it must be in our next trip. The food and decor look great.
Good to see so many vegan/vegetarian options.
Love those happy faces !

Following. Staying at AKL this summer. Some similar ADRs. I am the only vegetarian in the group. Interested in hearing about Boma breakfast. We are doing both a dinner and breakfast. How was it?

We have been to TH many times for breakfast and I tried it once by myself for dinner. Lunch looks really good, nice options that aren't the same old thing! On a side note I have lived here in San Antonio and have never dined at the Tower of Americas! I need to get myself downtown more often :)

--Yes, they had awesome veg friendly options! And you are totally right, can't beat a character parade! Last year when we were there for breakfast they did not do that so this year it was a nice surprise, what kid wouldn't want to dance and make noise while following Donald around the restaurant?!? LOL!

--Aww, thanks, impossible to not have a great time when the kids are having such a blast! You should definitely give Tusker House a try, it is a beautiful and well themed and though-out restaurant, a pleasant experience for sure.

-- Have a great time at AKL, my daughter loved it there when we dined there and we may have to stay there next trip! The Boma breakfast was delicious, I would have loved to try both but we just did not have room for another dinner! Next time I'd do dinner for sure!

-- Yes, I appreciate the offerings that you can't find ay any other Disney buffet. I love San Antonio but have only spent a short time there, we lived about an hour north of Austin for a year when we first got married and went down for day trips. Such a neat city! I don't know if the Tower of Americas is a tourist trap or what but we loved it and I remember the food being really good although that was at least 12 years ago, LOL!

Here are the snacks we enjoyed at Animal Kingdom...

Here are my little ones enjoying a frozen lemonade from the Dino Diner in Dinoland USA, after enjoying Bugs Life, Winged Encounters (my daughter's favorite she is a total bird lover), Dinosaur, and Primeval Whirl (well, for me and my oldest two, grandma and my youngest were not up for the whirling), the kids decided it was snack time! We headed over to the Dino Diner, which is so cute, not sure why I didn't get a picture, but it's a little tow-behind trailer looking stand with a dino head and tail. Surprisingly the kids all wanted the same thing, the frozen lemonade, which was 3.99 or a snack credit. These were generous servings of frozen lemonade from a slushee style machine, enjoyed by all on this hot day. This was a great idea because we took them into the line for Triceratops Spin and were even able to take the drinks on Triceratops Spin (I had warned them that by the time we got to the ride they would have to toss out what they didn't eat but the ride attendant let them take them on.)

Next up the amazing Jalapeno Cheese pretzel! Oh my, I had read about this before but this was my first one and it was sooo good! I love soft pretzels and spicy and although this one was pretty mild it was still delicious! My oldest son shared it with me and liked it too, my other two were not interested. My oldest is also a pretzel lover and was disappointed he couldn't find a Mickey pretzel yet (although he did find one at Hollywood Studios later in the week and declared that the Animal Kingdom jalapeno one was MUCH better). It does have a soft cheese filling that is creamy and good, maybe a jalapeno jack style/flavor cheese, not cream cheese. I think that maybe there in another Jalapeno Cheddar pretzel around WDW somewhere that is not filled but this one was.

My youngest with our 2nd annual Animal Kingdom Mickey Bar from a cart in the little corner area to the left of the Kali River Rapids area. All three had one of these traditional favorites.

Mommy's Treat came from...

A triple Yeti Blast -- three margarita flavors complete with salted rim should you so desire, of course I said, "yes, please," to the salted rim :)

And those were our treats for the day! I did have a snack list of things I thought we'd all like to try at AK including an egg roll and a fancy cotton top tamarind or elephant kusafiri cupcake but honestly we were so stuffed from breakfast and lunch that those weren't even on the radar during our walk through the park. More stuff to try next time!

Thanks for reading along, up next is dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Triple margarita, how did I not know about this before today??????? I know what I'm getting next trip to AK. And your pretzel looks delicious too. I've only had the plain cream cheese version, but I think this one will pair nicely with my margaritas ; )

I can't skip having a jalapeno cheese pretzel when I head to Disney. It's a must!! And that frozen lemonade looks so much better than the stuff that comes prepackaged. I might have to try some next time! I usually grab a frozen coke. :) Thanks for sharing!!
