New here, planning first trip to Disney for our honeymoon!

Hi all.
My fiance and I are getting married next August and going to Disney from September 13-19. We opted to delay the honeymoon until my kids are back in school and the temperature, hopefully, cools off a little bit.

Anyway, neither of us has EVER been to Disney, and we're getting a little excited. I freely admit I'm one of those ones who never went before because I really just couldn't justify spending all that money. But when it turned out it would cost just as much for the hubby-to-be and myself to go just about any place else, we said what the heck and booked Disney.

There is one thing I know for sure that I want to do while there - Dolphins in Depth at Epcot - but other than that, I am clueless. About everything! What to see. When things happen. Where to eat. How the dining plan works. Thankfully we have a year to plan and sort it all out.

I did send away for our free planning DVD so hopefully that will help. But any other tips from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

You are off to a good start with the plannig video, now get a few books and maps of WDW, begin to understand the lay of the land that encompasses the property. Understanding the parks and orientating yourself to the attractions will make youring alot easier. Create lists of must sees and dos, eating places you're interested in, sports you both enjoy and how you want to spend your leisure time. Then, you can come back here and ask all your questions, like which resort, tickets etc. I'm not a package person, we always just book room only and if we want to do anything extra, like find the time, we just pay out of pocket, no sense having all the paid extras and no time to do them.

WDW is huge, beyond describing and understanding, 4 parks and 2 water parks plus all the resort offering different things and themes can boggle the mind. Get familar with the whole world, check out other web sites, allears.net is a great site for everything, prices and all and spend some time on the offical Disney web site, you'll get the bug and awat you go, this is just the beginning.

This book is not only beautiful, it is updated and is chock full of terrific information!

I paid to much I know $25 at Books a Million. You can get it cheaper on Amazon I think...

Sounds like FUN!

As somebody who lived in Orlando for seven years, let me tell you that September can still be VERY hot. Probably not as humid as July, but be prepared that temps can still climb as high as the low 90s at that time of year.

When we lived there (1996 - 2002), I remember thinking that late September was one of the hardest times of year because it was still so darn hot, when in the rest of the country, things were starting to cool off a little.

I meant to add that since you are going during free dinning (if they do free dinning) you should book all of you Advance Dinning Resorvations for your table service meals....

We started planning our trip last July (and leave on WEDNESDAY!!!!) I'm glad I left myself so much time; there was a lot to learn.

Probably the first thing you want to do is choose a resort. Take a look at the resort fact sheets and photos at www.allears.com to narrow down your list a bit.

Oh, I guess I forgot to mention that we are staying at Pop. I have several friends who stayed there and liked it, so we booked there based on their recommendations.

Now, here's my planning dilemma. I am an OCD planner - as evidenced by the fact that I am here more than a year before my trip. lol. My fiance is the type who likes to wing it.

I am thinking that since it will just be the two of us - no kids - that we don't necessarily have to plan every moment of the trip, but will be free to "go with the flow" a little bit more. Would you agree?

There are certain things we know we want to do - dolphins in depth at Epcot is one of them - that we will need to make reservations for. And obviously we'll want to make our table-service meal reservations.

But otherwise, we are hoping we can be a little more unscheduled.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding & honeymoon. My DH & I just flew home last night after a wonderful 10 days at POP. We spent our honeymoon at the Polynesian 35 years ago! Of course, we were mere children - ages 18 & 19. We had a wonderful trip and though some of our time was dictated by a baseball tourney my youngest Grandson was in (at WDW sports complex) we did enjoy winging some of the time. I can get pretty OCD about planning trips because traveling is one of my greatest passions in life. I've heard someone say (regarding cruises - my favorite way to travel) "The next best thing to being on a cruise is planning the next one." So, I understand your planning this far ahead. Heck, it's half the fun of the travel experience.
