Hi! I'm Patty, and I'm joining the boards because we are planning our first "all Disney" vacation. We have been to Orlando with the kids twice, but the first time we went all over - Magic Kingdom, Sea World, Universal, etc and the second time was just two days before a Royal Caribbean cruise so we went to Aquatica and Magic Kingdom.

Our next vacation will be next summer and we are planning 5 nights at Disney - all Disney, including staying on property. It'll be tough to skip Harry Potter and Shamu, but we wanted to try it at least once.

We'll have a 10 year old, a 7 year old and a 3 year old. Pretty sure we'll stay at Port Orleans Riverside as those accomadations seem most reasonable for 5, but will have a lot of fun researching all the alternatives and ins and outs of a full on Disney vacation!

My family has been going to Disney since 1963 and honestly, this is the best place to get the low down on Disney--period. Great choice on the hotel by the way--we love Port Orleans, particularly Riverside. :smickey:

Hi Patty! Welcome to the Disboards! There are so many nice people here with so much information. I also applaud your choice of resorts...POR is one of my favorites:yay:.

Your kids are the perfect ages to make them Disney world aholic's like us!:rotfl2:

:welcome:

I think you'll find more than enough to keep you busy just doing Disney Parks! this is a great place to get information. Also, may I suggest getting a copy of Unofficial Guide to WDW? Either buy or check out from your local library. There is a lot of information you can peruse at your leisure and read what pertains to your family's interests and dynamics. Also, send for the maps of each of the parks that are available for free on the Disney website. Understanding the layout of each park is, I think, one of the best tools you can use to have a successful experience. ;)

Good luck to you and enjoy POR. It's a great resort!:thumbsup2

Welcome!! We Love Love POR. Another option for you might be to rent a reservation from a DVC member. You could rent a one bedroom at a deluxe resort (Animal Kingdom Villas or the newer villas at the Contemporary Resort - BLT) that would offer a bedroom for yourself and a sleeper sofa for 2 children and a sleeper chair for 1. You would have a full kitchen, a washer/dryer in the room and at the resorts I mentioned you would have 2 bathrooms.

I am new here also......I have only been to WDW 3 times but I will alwayas stay on property.....it costs more but there is no explanation I have that describes the Magic! I have stayed at the PO French Quarter and it is very nice......don't forget the boat ride to Downtown Disney!

We have also stayed at POR and liked it. Our favorite though is CBR. I just love the caribbean feel it has, the music. I love the way it is spread out, we have never felt like it was packed with people, and we have stayed there when it was pretty booked up. Plus we like the fact that CBR has so many quiet pools in addition to the big theme pool at Old Port Royale.

Anyway, like PP stated you will find plenty yo keep you busy for your entire onsite stay. Probably to much to do in one visit.

POR has the water taxis to DTD and you can always go over to POFQ and get beignets for a snack.

Have a magical time.

Welcome to the boards! You will never struggle to find a surplus of information about anything and everything Disney and POR!

We have stayed at POR 3 times and loved it every single time! We prefer Alligator Bayou, but I'm sure you will find people who enjoy Magnolia Bend as well!

POR is very nice, but check out the cabins at FW as well. Very cute for a family!
