New DVC resort - anyone else tired of just Orlando?

You have to also realize that Disney gets much more of your vacation dollar when you stay onsite at WDW----through theme park tickets, dining, recreational activities, etc etc

DVC helps them to increase attendance and revenue at times when it typically is slower among the general market.

More off-site options would be nice but not necessarily the best move for Disney financially.

ETA: I just wanted to add that I am not tired of Orlando since I haven't been to WDW yet (I have to wait until next year, but it's coming). I don't think I could get tired of going to WDW, I haven't gotten tired of DL, which is why I would love a DVC there

The only place that makes any sense would be DLR. I'm surprised they havent doen it already-you would think there would a huge amount of interest not only for all the west coasters but also for all the DVC/Disney enthusiasts that only go to Orlando every year.

I could see many posting how they bought into DLR so they can go there every 3rd or 4th year and then in the other years still use the points to book at WDW at 7 months

It seems there has alwats been that line that you either are a WDW person or a DL person. Seems DVC would be a great step to bring the 2 closer together and get more interaction between the 2.

I would love another offsite resort such as Hawaii...but I wouldn't BUY points there. That's where the problem lies. Many owners would love more offsite options but how many would actually purchase the points?

I'd love Hawaii but we couldn't afford to fly there each year. CA wouldn't be bad either and its not quite as expensive to fly. The mountains don't really interest me as we live about 5 hours from the Smokies and I can go there relatively cheaply now. A Caribbean DVC could be interesting but then again will I choose to go there enough to justify spending the $$ for points. Probably not... Heck, we still haven't made it to VB or HH yet!

So unless DVC can get people to actually buy 150 points or more I don't know if you'll see much in the way of non-WDW development.

We're not tired of Orlando. We'd have very little interest in another offsite DVC and doubt very much we'd buy points there. I guess we're creatures of habit, in that we look forward to staying at OKW as often as possible. For us it really is our home away from home - it's different than a vacation - it sounds a bit corny but that's the way it feels when we're there.

I will note that if there was a DVC resort at DL, Hawaii or the Caribbean we'd love to give it a try for a week or so but beyond that we'll take OKW.

Whenever additional offsite resorts are discussed I wonder how many HH or VB home resort points are used at the WDW DVC resorts. Then I wonder if another offsite resort would make it more difficult for WDW DVC resort owners to get their desired reservations inside the 7 month window. On the other hand additional offsite resorts may actually make it easier for WDW DVC resort owners to get what they want at WDW, but I doubt it.

All of our points are at HHI. When we bought, we were all but assured of always being able to book at 7-months out and to tell the truth, we have never been closed out. We bought at HH because it was a regular vacation spot for us with WDW being a close second and this remains our vacation pattern. We spend 3/4 of our vacations at HH and I'm going to speculate that those with a majority of points there do the same. With Vero Beach only two hours from WDW, the ratio is probably smaller, more like half-and-half. If this pattern were true for another offsite resort, the overall effect on getting reservations would be next to nil, nothing like the effect building another flagship resort on-site, like SSR, would have on 7-month reservations. Before SSR, most members I know stayed at their home resorts more often than trying the other locations, but didn't feel the need to book at 11-months.

When we bought, the only options on-site were OKW and BWV. VWL had been announced, but were not selling yet. I'd be curious to hear from some long-timers about how each resort opening affected their vacation planning over the long term, but that might make for a separate thread. In other words, did the new resorts make it easier or more difficult to get the reservation you wanted?

It didn't effect us much at all. We tried most of them for a night, and then just went right back to our "home" of OKW.

Take a look at the resale value of HH and VB vs the WDW DVC resorts. Does it make financial sense to build an offsite resort? Disneyland is probably the only place they could leverage the Disney name to sell the high cost vs other timeshares.

As another west coaster I'd love to see DLR or Hawaii. In the meantime I'm sure our 2 young nieces and our upcoming grandson will keep us going to DL & WDW often.
