New members - AKL available with December 2008 use year - 100 point contract (instead of usual 160 point contract) @ $96/point ($104 - $8) through Doorway to Dreams at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL as of 5/23/08.

Depending on who you speak with, you may also be able to get an April 2008 use year (if available).

If you would like all of the other incentives (2007 points/$500 gift card,) then you'll need to purchase 160 points.

Do you have to purchase in person (at the Doorway location) to take advantage of the offer?

Hmmm, are you sure DVC has lowered the minimum point buy-in for new DVC members from 160 points to 100 points?

I actually bought in at the DL event (new, not add-on), and they were offering a 100 buy in, but they said it was only for this weekend.

Maybe it isn't just for the weekend...?

The deal at DL was 100 pts with 130 dev points, 160-249 gets you APs with an II package or a Concierge package or 220 dev points, 250-349 gets you APs, and a land and sea cruise package, etc. $8 off, all around, of course.

Yes. The minimum was lowered to 100 points, as I purchased yesterday, in person at the Doorway to Dreams Store in Woodfield.

As for if it needs to be done in person, and how long the offer is good for, that I do not know.

If you wanted the other incentives, including 2007 points and the $500 gift card, you still needed to purchase a minimum of 160 points.

I wonder why Disney has lowered the minimum point purchase from 160 points to 100 points? Are their sales slowing down due to the economic situation? Are they just testing this to see what it does to sales? Are sales slow just in Chicago?

I also wonder how long before this same minimum buy-in will be rolled-out to WDW and DLR?

Could be they are losing customers to resale for the lower pt. amount.

Could be. A new 100-point AKV contract good through 2057 direct from DVC at $96/point would compete better against resale as one of the benefits of resale has been you don't have to buy the minimum of 160 points.

It's sure to generate sales for some folks who saw the initial buy-in as a barrier: $9,600 plus closing sounds better than $15,360 plus closing.

I can't speak for if WDW and DLR will lower the buy-in, but in speaking with my guide, it seems that one of the factors was that they were seeing many single parents with one child and married couples with no children.

I fall into the single parent with one child category and 160 points didn't work for the way we travel, but 100 points does.

Sounds great to me. If DW and I buy in, it will almost certainly be at about 100 points, which means resale unless Disney continues this offer.

We're a married couple with no children, but only living 2 hours away, we find 260 points isn't enough.

Wow, I so wish I could buy right now. I have to wait until next year :( 100 points would be perfect since it is just DH and I.

If anyone finds out more about this, please post! (i.e is this a limited time offer, only in Chicago, etc) I might actually be able to convince DH to buy in sooner at 100 pts...

First, Sales are still great for DVC even with the economy! If anyone has been to Disney recently they would know because the resorts and parks are still packed! Second, the 100 point offer (AKV only) is an option at all locations WDW, DL, and Chicago. They are trying to make vacationing with DVC an option for everyone who wants to join. :) If anything I think they are doing something great for us! :hyper: Keep it up DVC!!! :yay:

I also think that it is a great idea. It could definitely affect the resale market .

But in terms of married couples with no kids, well our 2 girls are grown, so it will most often be us and our 285 pts will certainly have to increase over time.

I do think this is a good move for DVC. It doesn't bother me as a recent purchaser as 100 would not have been enough anyway. But for many people 100 will be a great way to start.

WOOHOO!!! DH gave me the go ahead if we can buy in at 100 points. I am so excited!!! I just left a message for the guide who sent me info last year! Hoping he calls me back tomorrow! :cool1:  :yay:

I also fall into the single parent/one child category. I've had my eyes on DVC since our first trip back in 2001. I've come close to purchasing many times, but always backed away do to the cost.

So, new purchasers can get 100 AKL points at $96 a point, with 130 developer points, when buying at Disneyland? Is that same offer available for add-ons, and is it available at WDW and in Illinois?

I asked my guide the same question and new purchasers at Doorway to Dreams in Illinois can only get the 100 points $96 a point. No developer points included.
