Today we loaded the kids in the car and made the 25 minute drive to the National Harbor, future site of the newest Disney Resort! I snapped some photos of the future site and some of the surrounding area.

The National Harbor is obviously very excited about their new deal with Disney, since they had large signs welcoming Disney at the entrance to the harbor, at the actual site, around the "boardwalk" area, and even a stuffed Mickey pearched high above welcoming visitors.

We plan on returning pretty regularly, so we'll see how things progress and report back!

Here are the pictures...

Here is the site.

Here is a closer view of the sign welcoming Disney to the National Harbor, and the same sign at another location.

Here is my wife and kids in front of the site, and one of me sporting my DIS Unplugged shirt in front of the site.

If there is any place I love more than Disney, it is Washington DC. I'm so excited they will be having a Disney resort there!!!!!

I always thought a great 8th grade graduation trip would be Washington D.C. Now, I know I have a great place to stay while visiting our Nation's Capital! My DD is going into 4th grade, so I have some time to wait, but it will a great trip!

I can't wait to look at these when I get home. I went to college in DC and I truly love that city.

Thank you for sharing those pictures. Looking forward to future updates! :thumbsup2

We have been planning a trip to DC for quite some time and keep putting it off, so this may be the place that gets us there!

We got WAY to excited just to step on the property when went! I can't imagine how over the top we'll be when they actually start to develop it!

Neat photos, I find it so strange that they are actually building a hotel and continuing with this "blue sky project", but excited that a Disney hotel will be just a train ride away!

They'll build a hotel in DC but have a Waldorf Astoria built on WDW property, very strange.

I'm curious to hear exactly what they are gonna do. The spots too small for a theme park but seems too big for JUST a hotel. So I'm curious what little extra amenities will be there.

All of the news reports here in DC have been very careful to say it is not a theme park... Apparently this has been in the works for about 4 years!

The Gaylord National Hotel/Convention Center that is also at the National Harbor is huge! Disney will really class up the joint... When we were there Monday it was dead!

I drove by the area on Sunday but didn't have the camera. It was probably dead over the weekend bcs there were no big conventions due to the holiday and congress is out of session for the week.

I'm hoping the Gaylord does the ICE show that it has in Nashville and Orlando- I'd love to see that.

Didn't Iger a year or two ago talk about Theme Parks in a Box for urban settings? I know they wanted to expand the footprint, but not necessarily do a full on park, plus it would allow year round use for colder climates. I think Disney quest was SUPPOSED to be this but that didn't work obviously. So maybe, this will be a hotel and some kind of "Theme Park in a Box"... Not sure WHAT that would entail mind you... or how much it would cost... I still think Disney quest failed because of the high cost... had they built it with credits and with food and stuff... like an upscale Chuck E Cheese, or a non-alcoholic D and B, it might have worked.

That would be great if they did ICE! But there is no way my wife would go to it with me. She hates the cold!

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe something along the lines of a Great Wolf Lodge or something like that... They could do a Kim Possible like adventure inside the resort... I would love to see something like that, but would be very happy with just a resort hotel as well!

That's a good comparison... although I hope they come up with something better than just an indoor water park.

I'm thinking this could be a good template for some future DVC resorts. I could see this concept working in places like Lake Tahoe (Which I know DVC at one point said they were interested in for the future), Vegas (since its gone away from the Family friendly concept it used to have, Disney and DVC could fill a great niche there... with or without Casino... I'm thinking on the property of one of other hotels so Disney doesn't run it, but guests can access it), and others.

Thanks for the photos. Can't wait to see what happens here. I would definately go to DC for this.
