While I've not yet had the pleasure to camp at FW, I have from time to time lurked on this board to see what's going on over at The Fort.

I recall seeing the earlier plans for the relocation of the stables and the discussion about a possible DVC component at FW due to the extras included with the first filing of those plans.

So, while searching for additional details regarding the Grand Floridian Project 2011-1, I found this which shows a new dining pavilion for FW.

Is this old news? It was just filed this week so thought it might be new.

TSMIII,

thanks for posting this.

It is new to us in a way but then again not.

Last fall a similar type document (as you mentioned) was posted with the South Florida Water Authority to relocated the horse barn/Tri Circle D Ranch portion down by Pioneer Hall to the Front of Fort Wilderness where the Checkin area is now along with the horse ride stables. The drawing showed buildings (maybe DVC properties) where the horse barn, BBQ Pavilion, and old River Country was which would essentially put the DVC property between the Fort and Wilderness Lodge.

Speculation was that although the barn was being relocated the BBQ Pavilion would have to go as well and it was also speculated to go over where these drawings indicate - behind loops 100-200 along the beach area. There has been recent infrastructure work in that area of the minor kind.

Based on planning cycles and timelines, the speculation was/is that the Fort/WL area will get the next DVC property after the GF addition is built. So your post is a continuation in the same direction with the remainder of buildings being relocated, upgraded, improved, and prepped for the next additions.

If you learn any more juicy nuggets please post them. Thanks again for your sleuthy contribution! :woohoo:

I looked at this document at length today.

Since it was filed with the Water Authority it naturally dealt with ground water issues: 100-year flood plains, runoff, saturation, soil densities, etc.

Here is the Readers Digest version: :hippie:

1. The BBQ pavillion will be relocated behind loops 100/200 and the the Settlement Trading Post.

2. The current golf cart parking between the Settlement TP and the beach will be located across the sidwalk toward the playground near Trails End/Crockett's Tavern and the Lawn Mower Tree area. It looks like the playground will survive but the current golf cart parking area down there will be sidewalk/queue space to the Pavillion. The new golf cart parking would not be concrete but some material that lets rainwater pass through.

3. The road running beside the Settlement TP to the right of it will be paved a little further to serve the back of the Pavillin (where the Food Service/Storage would likely be).

4. Sample bores and muck readings were taken in July and August 2010 to determine what land prep would be needed to properly build a foundation and deal with rainwater issues.

5. Two dry storage ponds would be built around the pavillion to hold runoff rain water from heavy storms.

6. No comments on timetables, dates, next steps.

7. The first foot or so of soil on the build site is organic soil that would have to be removed and replaced with a fine sand of a certain standard to meet building regulations.

8. In this document the current beach/shoreline at the Fort would remain. The building would take place to the right of the marina as you come up on it.

I didn't think there was enough space back in there, but it sounds like a whole lot of noise will be coming to the residents of the 100/200 loops. Civilization is encroaching on what we have come to accept as somewhat rural. With the DVC (or whatever) on the other side, what will the Fort look like in a few years?

Around Atlanta there are some pretty effective anti-airport-expansion groups. Maybe we need to look at their methods and successes. Of course they are only dealing with some governments. We would be up against something much more powerful...the great and powerful Corporation of Disney.

But we will most likely keep coming and enjoying whatever is there.

You are right about the whole lot of noise they have live entertainment. I have never been to the Back Yard BBQ but I have heard it when I’ve been sitting on the porch drinking a beer. So can anyone tell me want time does it end at night.
