New details about "Frozen" ride

I find it interesting that they are using the same track. Maybe how they plan on finishing it so quickly? Also that they began planning a ride before the movie even premiered.

They knew!

This ride was fast tracked and being done on the cheap compared to what Tokyo is getting. They are combining the load and unload stations and adding two scenes in the former load station. And for such a cheap overlay they should've been able to have this done in a year.

*sigh* Really not looking forward to the waits for this one. We managed to avoid Frozen fever for quite awhile. We're at the parks a couple times a month, but, we finally went to the Frozen meet and greet for the first time this Monday as it's the first time I've gotten a fast pass for them. Four year old daughter pretty much lost her mind about meeting them. Haven't seen her that excited in awhile. My original strategy was to avoid this completely the whole first year it was open. But, looks like we'll be going. On the bright side, bet you could get on Soarin a couple times at rope drop before the line piles up once this opens. I've been loving how the whole rope drop crowd at Magic Kingdom goes to 7DMT or Anna/Elsa meet and greet. A few weeks ago we rode Space Mountain 7 times in the first hour after rope drop. The total daily capacity for Maelstron was only about a third of Epcot's attendance, so, it'll be like the Anna Elsa meet and greet, lot's of disappointed kids and parents who have the choice of holding a spot in the line for 6 hours or telling their kid they aren't riding it after all. Well, unless Disney has found some way to increase capacity.

Alright, I'm glad to finally be getting some dirt from the company about this.

Seems like it will be a fun little ride. I'm actually pretty excited about the potential here. Call me what you will, but I absolutely fell in love with Frozen when I first saw it opening week in 2013. Love hasn't died since. It does make sense to have a Frozen attraction, and it should be great.

The only complaint I have with the attraction concept is the party aspect. I understand completely that a winter festival may be fun, but it strikes me as highly unoriginal. First, in the movie the reason it came together was coronation day. Fine, that's a fun party gathering. Second, in Frozen Fever it's Anna's birthday. Now in this attraction it's a festival? Too many parties in this kingdom acting as the plot glue for my taste. Though I'm willing to forgive that because I have a soft spot for Frozen.

Now more broadly this thing will become a major problem over the next few years. Frozen is only going to be getting more and more popular over the next few years. They applied a bandaid to a gaping wound. This is not going to be close enough to handling the demand of all the little girls and yours truly who want to ride this thing. 3-4 hour waits are going to poorly reflect on Epcot, WDW, and even (think of the brand) Frozen itself.

I have a feeling that it will take a year and a half before they breakdown and announce Frozen Ride 2.0. Those who think Disney would never do that need to remember who Disney has been catering the MK for. Now imagine all those little princesses hot and angry after waiting in the sun for hours. Sound scary? I'm sure Disney funds that terrifying too.

Other tid bits from Staggs about the "purists" not fighting Frozen and that it will be here for as long as we're around. He's right, but that doesn't mean it has to be crammed into a very special park that was designed with loftier aspirations. It doesn't work both logistically or thematically. It also doesn't do full justice to the IP. I'm not the most radical "purist," but I can see why this wrong. Does it completely offend me that there's Frozen in Norway? No. Does it offend me that it's being done in a way that leaves much to be desired? Yeah.

Also Disney appears to actually be building this as fast as possible. That's what I get from the quotes. They did this specifically to get it done quickly. They want this done. It could be they're creating original animation and story as well new tech. It doesn't seem like Disney is taking it slow though.

One final thought. Those animotronics have better amazing. What they did on mine train was alright. Not amazing, but good enough for the dwarves. Elsa? They better make it perfect. Especially with that scene. If not, than this ride will fall short. I'm worried on that front.

That's where I feel they probably will fall short being that this was fast tracked. If only we could get what OLC is getting.

My impression based on what has been announced previously is that it's going to lean more-or-less heavily on video screens to tell the story. Plus, if Rio del Tiempo is a precedent, maybe some fairly unspectacular fiber optic or projector effects. The concept art looks to me like it could be a large video screen in the middle with some digital projections on each side (or more video screens) with lasers or mirror-ball type reflections to create swirling sparkles all around.

The press release about the Frozen ride didn't contain any words or phrases such as innovative, unique, ground-breaking, next-generation, state-of-the-art, etc. I assume that if they were doing something amazing, they would hardly have left it out of the press release that kicked the whole thing off. For example, the Mine Train was announced like this:

The attraction features an innovative new ride system that allows cars to pivot back and forth during the twists, turns, hills and drops of the ride.

So re-check the press releases ... if they don't say "amazing" anywhere, it doesn't seem likely that you're going to get "amazing". You might get a very nice ride with nice music that tells a good story though.

the 900 guest per hour capacity will sure be interesting ;)

Sounds like FP+ with no standby line may be inevitable. OR Close the standby que when 100 guests are waiting
