My local news just did a thing on new Delta airline charges. Per the news cast, Delta has declared all aisle and window seats to be "premium" seats for which they charge an additional fee. They made the point that if you are a family flying together, your only options are to pay the extra fee or go as a line of middle seat passengers. They also said that Delta is "considering" a fee to allow passengers to get off the aircraft first.

Their suggestion--fly only airlines that don't do these ridiculous things.

I honestly don't know if this info is accurate--just know what the TV news said.

Not that long ago, I read a similar article on MSN about how some airlines were going to do this...unbelievable.

wow hope that is not true we always fly Delta, might have to start reconsider airlines.

Crazy!

I can't imagine anyone wanting to fly with them.

Single people want the isle and families want to sit together.

That is crazy! The first time a family has children sitting alone, crying and fussing, I bet seats will be changed with out an additional fee. Can you imagine?

Doesn't American Airlines already do this? I don't think it is a family-friendly policy at all. Of course, maybe that's the point. :(

Has anyone confirmed this or is everyone getting riled up on speculation? As far as getting off first just don't pay the fee and wait the 5 minutes. Once they open the doors it always goes fast. I chose to sit in back of airplanes and the majority of the waiting is waiting for the crew to get clearance to open the door, not other passengers.

Per Delta's web site, "preferred" seats include aisle and window seats toward the front of the plane, bulkhead seats, and exit row seats. Medallion class flyers may reserve a preferred seat at no additional cost. Others can purchase these seats.

What it doesn't say is exactly what constitutes "toward the front of the plane."

Sorry...this irritates me just about as much as the "handicapped" person who got on our Southwest flight with her one allowed person and they proceeded to save 6 additional seats...and the flight attendants did nothing.

From what I gather, American Airlines, Delta, US Airways, Frontier, and Spirit
are the airlines charging higher fares for window and aisle seats.

Don't fight this folks!!!! For FREE you can stick your tired, hungry, entertainment-needing children with someone else for the whole flight!!!! Yay - free babysitting!!!! After a couple business folks in premium seats complain - all will return to normal. Until then, enjoy your vacay!!!!

Yes this is accurate. Just google it. It is more than Delta too. American does it as well. I sure hope Southwest does not go this route. This is really ridiculous.

And you will also be the first ones off the plane, they will even assist you with getting your luggage out of the overhead.....Problem solved!

In all seriousness, these fees are getting ridiculous. When comparing airfares, you now need to know the base fare, bag fees, seat fees, etc. And paying to be the first off the plane??? I would love to see that being monitored/enforced. Ever notice that whenever a flight is running late, and they ask passengers to "please allow those passengers with conecting flights to de-plane first" everyone seems to get off at the same time anyway. I was in the back of a plane, late for a connection, and was still one of the last one off the flight. There is no way that 95% of the people on that flight also had connections.

American has designated window and aisle seats close to the front as premium seats. However, you can book window and aisle seats farther back in the plane without paying a fee.

I wouldn't worry about SW. They would have to change their entire business model and drop the cattle call. Considering the extra $$$ they make from the early bird check-in as well it wouldn't get them any extra $$$. In fact implementation would probably cost more, and cause more trouble then it is worth.

Once again the "news" is more interested in headlines than actual fact. Delta has introduced a new "economy comfort" section on most of its aircraft that does have an additional fee unless you are one of their very frequent flyers. However, that section is only a small portion of the coach cabin - usually the first 3-5 rows.

On our upcoming Delta flight the first 26 rows only the middle seat is not preferred. Rows 27-45 none of the seats are preferred, thus we are in row 27 a b c and d.

Any of the airlines will work with families to get them together at the gate, big brother won't let kids sit with strangers.
