First, thanks to some inheritance, we are debt free (except for the house). We have a Disney Visa card that we haven't used in over a year. We fly to Florida next year on Delta. Delta has a $23 1st bag fee. There are 5 of us and we anticipate checking 3 bags. The bag fee is waived however if a member of the traveling party has an American Express Gold (I think that's right) card.

So I'm thinking right now that around January, either DW or I sign up for the new card (1st year no annual fee, after that $95/year). Present it for our trip, then when we return cancel it. That would save us $138 (round trip * 3 bags).

Any thoughts?

Very smart, never pay for a credit card and take the free stuff they offer. Nothing wrong with that. If you have good credit established it shouldn't hurt your fica score at all. Alot of people do it...and I mean alot of people.
