It's being reported that the new first floor restaurant at the Contemporary Resort will be named "The Wave" and will feature an Asian inspired menu.

So far, no one seems to know when the Concourse Steakhouse will close to make way for the new snack bar, Chef Mickey's Express.

It sounds very intresting & if it's true, I am sure it would be weird not having the Concourse Steakhouse there since it has been open for so many years.

The one thing I do like is that the Food & Fun Center would be renamed Chef Mickey's Express, so that is something to look forward to.

A good Asian restaurant would be a welcome addition to WDW dining, IMO! Hope it's true!

Didn't WDW just announce a new Asian counter service location at the Animal Kingdom? So I wonder if we see a thread developing here with new Asian themed restaurants around WDW?

I hope so. There is a distinct lack of pan-Asian cuisine at WDW. The little that there is seems to be focused on Japan and China, and that's way too narrow.

Actually, there used to be a very fine "Asian" restaurant at WDW--Sum Chows. We ate there 3 times before it finally closed due to lack of business. At our last meal there we were talking with one of the servers, who noted that many (if not most) folks who came to the restaurant seemed to be more interested in getting Egg Rolls and Wonton soup than they were in some of the fine dishes served at Sum Chows. That conversation with our server was immediately after we saw a party of about 10 people walk in, sit down, look at the menu (which was already posted outside the restaurant) and then begin to berate the server because all you can eat Chow Mein wasn't available. They got up and walked out!!
Anyway--will be interested how this new spot will work out. The original rumor was that the place would have an Australian theme.

Americans have taken to Asian Cuisine a lot more in the past few years. It evidenced in various areas of our culture.

I think this restaurant would do well now. Plus Disney is getting more and more foreign travelers then they did when Sum Chows was around.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what Australian food would be??

Beautiful cat BTW Cheshireval.

Thank you! :)

Aussie food is really very similar to English and American food. They eat a lot of lamb and fish n' chips and meat pies. It just seemed like such a random choice for CR, and very similar to Rose and Crown or Raglan Road. Although if they made it a pub, that might be fun.

I'm thinking the Australian "theme" would have been something on the order of Outback. Basically still a steakhouse, as was the Concourse. No one ever mentioned Australian "food".
Tho when I was in Australia on R&R during the Vietnam conflict (1969) all I remember eating each night was steak!! Sydney had several nice Steakhouses, as I recall.
But anyway, it was just the original rumor. Based on this new thread, I guess that was all wrong!
