I don't know how long this has been going on - my husband just noticed it this week. Has there been a thread about this already?

The details:
4 day park hopper with a few blockout dates (July 4th, Aug. 22-23rd, Xmas time)
Use any 4 days before it expires in May 2011
Comes with a $50 Disney GC
For So Cal residents only
Upgrade value is $151 rather than full price

I suppose it was unreasonable of me to hope for the return of the deal on deluxe APs.

(ETA: changes in bold are corrections from the original post. Thank goodness my husband has a better memory than I do!)

Interesting?? do tell the info you know. I might have to buy my tickets at costco?

I wonder why they only do these gret deals for so cal residents- don't they know the rest of us might try to get there more often if we could afford more trips!

That's all I know about this year's deal. Last year they offered deluxe AP's for anyone (no residency restrictions) at full price but with a $50 gift card. Since then DL has sold a record number of annual passes. So I guess it's not too surprising that an AP deal hasn't come back.

We may end up buying this year's deal with the 4 pack of tickets and just use them as summer blockout passes with an upgrade to an AP on the 4th day. Or then again, with WOC crowds, maybe we'll just take a summer hiatus.

Do passes last 365 days from the first day you use it?

Annual passes? Yes, they do, they are active from the date of your first use until the same date the following year. For example, if you activate your AP voucher or buy an AP at the park on 7-4 that AP will be valid until 7-4-2011. Keep in mind that there are 4 different levels of AP's available, 2 that are only for So Cal residents (and you DO have to prove your residence) and the Deluxe and Premium for anyone who wants them. Every AP has black out dates (dates you are allowed to enter the park but you have to purchase black out passes for that day) except the Premium AP.

Also if you're asking about park hopper passes they are only valid for 14 days after your first use. So if you used it for the first time on 7-4 then you would have to use the last day by 7-18. I think my dates are right there. :)

ok let's say i buy these costco 4-day tickets and use 3 days and then upgrade to a deluxe annual passport. i've never done anything like this so i'm not sure how it works.

is the starting date of the deluxe annual passport the date of first use of the costco ticket or the date of the upgrade?

is the upgrade value always $151 (why isn't it $149) or does it decrease for each the day the costco ticket gets used)?

thanks in advance.

Yes, your renewal date will be the anniversary of the first use of your ticket. With this ticket it could be tricky because you can use the 4 PH days anytime between now and May 2011. There is not a 'must use within 13 days of first use' restriction. So, if you use it twice in summer and once near Halloween and once in Feb and then upgrade to an AP, your renewal date would be the anniversary of the first time you used that ticket.

is the upgrade value always $151
Yes, regardless of how many days you use this ticket, even if you upgrade on the 4th day of use, you will get $151 credit toward upgrading to an Annual Pass.

Enjoy your trip!

so how much is the actual ticket?

so how much is the actual ticket?

Costco sells the ticket for $199, but you get a $50 gift card at the time of purchase. Yes - at the time of purchase.. DO NOT leave Costco without the gift card. :goodvibes So, the actual value Disney puts on the ticket for upgrading purposes is $151. I'm not sure how they came to that number, but the upgrade value is written in small print on the placard that you take to the cashier.

Are we sure this ticket is restricted to SoCal residents and if so how was that conclusion reached?

Does this deal come with access to 1 Magic Morning?

Also does everyone need to be a Southern California resident? My parents live in Southern California and will be going with us to Disneyland. Can they buy 5 of these passes and then accompanying myself, DW, and DD inside the park with these passes (eventhough myself, DW, and DD are not Southern California residents).

I don't know about the MM, sorry.

No, everyone does not need to be a So Cal resident. Your parents can buy the passes and then take you guys to the parks. At least that's how it has been in the past. Of course things change so be aware they may not allow you to use them and may have you upgrade but in the past the stipulation has been that the So Cal resident has to accompany to you the parks.

The person using the ticket - unless they are a minor - must be a SoCal resident. Whether or not the ticket agent decides to enforce this is luck of the draw. Most don't, but Disney has started enforcing them more heavily as of late.

Great question! Doesn't seem right to me either.

It's easy marketing and supply/demand. Disneyland doesn't need to offer cheap tickets to those not within driving distance. It overall does not entice people to visit (it might entice a small handful, but certainly not a lot). Cheap vacation packages, however, do.

Furthermore, Disney needs to place some sort of restriction on cheap tickets, and a population base of 20M seems to be a good limit.

Are these really restricted for sale to Southern California residents, or is it that they are just on sale at Southern California Costcos? I'll be driving down on the 20th, and it would certainly be easy enough to swing by a Costco on my way there.

Yes, I did realize I missed the fine print about being a so.cal resident. ARR. I live 5 hrs away, come on! concessions for us! My question is, what if I buy them while I am in Anaheim, and use them for the upgrade? Think it can be done? I don't want to sound unethical. I just wish they would do better deals for fans that are nearby as well.
