New clubhouse, no mention of OKW slide...

OKW guests have the option of "quiet pools" if that's their preference. Adding a slide will NOT decrease the bothersome screaming and yelling of kids (and parents) fighting and whining.

Exactly - there are other pools that people can go to, just like all the other resorts.

I have to laugh at the people that complain about the "hideous" slides at other resorts, such at the clown at BWV. I couldn't bother getting myself in a tizzy about something so dumb. If I didn't like it I'd just move to the quiet pool so I didn't have to look at it.

Or an even better solution, do what I do, I don't stay there very often. Who gets 'in a tizzy' about that slide? I have never seen anyone advocate getting rid of it.

Actually, no. I will look forward to taking my grandkids to WDW and enjoying playing in the pools with slides. There will be those few years in between, but I'd imagine like I said before that I'd enjoy relaxing by the pool, sipping a drink and watching the little kids have fun.

I am a rank beginner.

B]I just meant you should be there to play a lighthearted game of tennis - not one so serious that noise (of any kind) from the pool area or playground area is going to ruin your day.[/B]

But, by your reasoning, they could put a pool by the golf course and any noise that bothered the golfers could be passed off as: Opps, you are at Disney, what did you expect. Trust me, the golfers would rule on this one.

[Maybe - but the golf course was not put in near the pool/playground area. You knew that's where the courts were when you decided to play.

The playground is rarely used or has noise coming from it.

Really? It's usually pretty busy when we've visited. (and we normally sit near the kiddie pool & playground). I guess you've been lucky though . But either way, being that the courts are right next to the playground & pool, that's a chance you take . But happy to hear you've been lucky so far as to not be disturbed.

The one or two times I heard any horrible noise from there it was because some kid was having a temper tantrum because mommy decided it was time to go. The pool however, is a constant source of noise (which, for the most part can be ignored). Screams and shreiks, however, cannot be ignored.
Kids scream when they use a slide. Why, I do not know. Regardless of the reason, it is distracting.

Yes, but kids are going to screetch and yell with or without the slide - they do this when they play at a pool when jumping in the water, playing games, etc. I hardly believe the addition of a slide will bring that much more schrieking or screeming than already is going on.

OKW is laid back and it is, for the most part, quiet. As I said before, I like that. If I want noise I will stay at BWV.
I like the fact that each DVC resort is unique, the lack of a slide and the serene makup of OKW make is unique, I really see no reason to change that. [/B]

I agree with you here that OKW is quiet for the most part -- however, you have to expect that near the main pool there's going to be alot more noise as compared to the rest of the areas in the resort and I just don't agree that a pool slide will add much more noise to an already loud / busy area. I also don't see the lack of a waterslide to be what makes OKW unique. What makes it unique to us is the theming and building styles and things like that .

The argument about screaming kids, though, is idiotic. I feel sorry for those that can't enjoy children at play, even when they're noisy. That's what WDW is all about. OKW guests have the option of "quiet pools" if that's their preference. Adding a slide will NOT decrease the bothersome screaming and yelling of kids (and parents) fighting and whining.

Some people don't like being called idiots or having their opinions called idiotic.
Disney is not all about loud children playing. It is not all about children. The fact that it is targeted for both famlies, singles and empty nesters should show you Disney is all about people.

Yes, we have an option of quiet pools, but, alas, they have failed to build tennis courts near one.

Personally, I think they should build a new pool with slide in the middle of one of the greens.

OKW has many merits and those who want a slide have the option of booking at another resort. This provides a nice variety of choices within DVC. And now with SSR there will be added choices for a resort with a "fancier" pool.

Why should we have to book at another resort though when we like OKW better? The only thing it lacks for us would be a pool slide. But for the most part I don't care for the "hotel" feel of the other DVC resorts as much as I like the "homey" feel of our home resort at OKW. Having no slide isn't a problem for us right now since pool hopping is aloud but if it should cease I'm all for a slide being put in.

After a day at one of the water parks my 5 kids tire of slides anyway.

Not all of us have kids old enough to make buying a waterpark ticket worth the price! Why should we have to go to the waterpark when they can't enjoy most of it yet?!

It sounds like some OKW owners have SLIDE ENVY, but won't admit it. (I own at OKW exclusively.)

B]We own exclusively at OKW also and yes I guess we do have SLIDE ENVY as you say - simply because we don't have one at OKW. We don't have RESORT ENVY though.[/B]

Completely agree!

Just curious, when does the Spring Vacation Magic come out. Perhaps an announcement will come out then (even though we will hear about here first).

Sorry about the idiotic thing. That was poor. I edited the post. But I think that particular argument is bad. I BET that a slide pool would not interfere with your tennis game at all. Just pretend you're playing Center Court and the fans are going wild.

However, I do agree with the conclusion that OKW is fine as it is and that no slide should be added. It is the ONLY on-site resort with a true home-away-from-home feel and I like that.

I'm not talking about getting rid of it. I'm talking about people who state the slide is hideous and an eyesore. I can't be bothered worrying about such things. If I didn't like it I wouldn't swim at that pool - there are other options. Just like if I didn't like the decor of a Value resort I wouldn't stay there - I'd find somewhere else to stay.

I would think, as a father of five, that kids too young to appreciate a water park would not really appreciate a slide like the one at SAB either. (It won't be long and they'll be old enough anyway.)

Instead of thinking about what OKW doesn't have, just enjoy what's available. (In a glass half-full kind of way.) If you went to the REAL Key West, you wouldn't spend the whole time fretting that it had no nice beach. You would just enjoy the ambience. If you wanted a beach you would go to the Panhandle.

Pool hop to the Contemporary. It's not too crowded. You can sign up for the family boat-rental plan and enjoy the beautiful pool and rather nice slide. And schedule a meal at Chef Mickey's to boot.

So why don't people who don't like the fact that OKW doesn't have a pool slide stay somewhere else? OKW hasn't had a slide for over 12 years. ANYONE who owns points there bought them at a resort without a pool slilde. If someone don't like OKW's lack of a pool slide, they are free to stay at a resort that has one.

That will be the next thing, people who have to 'settle' at OKW but don't like the style and decor of the resort will start demanding that the resort be re-themed into something they they would prefer more.

Umm, I guess you need to explain how saying there is a "real" underlying reason is not saying that everything said so far is untrue.
Sorry, but this statement is calling previous reasons lies. With this statement you are calling the OKW owners who posted, like me, saying that asthetics and noise were their prime reasons agains the slide, liars.
There is no other way to read that.
Umm, make what up? You called previous posters "liars" when you said "The real underlying reason"
Often times in life people will be in denial or operating under delusions. I certainly would not call these people liars. I would call them people who are burying their heads in the sand and do not want to see what is really the reason for something. But, I definitely would not call these people liars. To me a person is a liar when they consciously and purposely distort the truth in an intentionally false way to make it work to their advantage.
Like someone purposely lying repeatedly for years about the size of resort rooms or the length of hallways.
Or someone lying and saying NO ONE posted that the reason they did not want a pool slide at OKW is because of the increase in dues.
That in my book, is a liar. If the shoe fits, wear it.
AGAIN, the slide and pool enhancement is happening at OKW whether you like it or NOT! Get over it!! And stop whining about it!! Go get busy figuring out your infamous quote of "?% less dues", since that % will now change. That should be something to keep your busy for awhile. LOL!

No worries, thank you.
As to center court, I had to chuckle at that one. Even tennis matches are quiet, except for the occasional idiot who does not shut off the cell phone. They only go wild between points.
It is the occasional scream or outburst from a fan that screws things up for a tennis player and that was my point.

do you remember the renter who did not like the trees and pitched a hissy fit until they cut them WAY back? that was sort of retheming which, IMHO was totally unnecessary.

we're all entitled to our opinions and that is mine

Yes, you certainly are and geez no one has called it idiotic either.
Too bad you don't have the same courtesy.

If it matters, I don't think you called anyone a liar. Rich uses that ploy to make people angry so they won't concentrate on the issue and will respond to his assertion. He LOVES mind games. I don't think anyone has lied on this topic.

Its funny but the couple of times we had to stay at OKW because the other resorts were sold out I was mad we were so far away from a pool...any pool I don't think a slide would make that much difference at the main pool...it was very noisy the days I visited. I don't own there so my opinion shouldn't count. I'm also an avid Tennis player but since I'm not playing in a competition when I'm on vacation the noise doesn't both me in fact you would probably be annoyed by me as I often break the code of etiquette when my hubby hits me on the back of the head with his serve..talk about your screams. When we tour we never play together.
