New clubhouse, no mention of OKW slide...

Not all of us have kids old enough to make buying a waterpark ticket worth the price! Why should we have to go to the waterpark when they can't enjoy most of it yet?!

I would think, as a father of five, that kids too young to appreciate a water park would not really appreciate a slide like the one at SAB either. (It won't be long and they'll be old enough anyway.)

I disagree - I have an almost 4 year old and a 5month old. My almost 4 year old is still too young to enjoy the waterparks with the exception of the small kiddie area they have -- too expensive in our opinion. Yet he loves the little water slide at SAB ( there are 2 there for those who didn't know, a small one and the big jib-jammer one) and having the 5month old makes it totally not worth it as not only is she too young being a baby but dh and I can't enjoy a waterpark at their ages either. So it's not just the expense -- but that's a whole other debate right there. Point is, ds at the age he is right now does enjoy the slides at SAB,POR-R, and the like because they are small enough for his age and large enough for everyone else too.

Pool hop to the Contemporary. It's not too crowded. You can sign up for the family boat-rental plan and enjoy the beautiful pool and rather nice slide. And schedule a meal at Chef Mickey's to boot.

We do pool hop -- If you'd read my previous posts, my statements were that as long as pool hopping remains one of our perks, we're fine without a slide. If pool hopping does cease though as rummored to, we are part of those who would most definetly favor the waterslide being put in at OKW and for that matter we'd love it to be put in even if pool hopping does remain. It would be much more convienient since we love the resort.

Lets try to remember that the thread is about the fact that the latest Member Clubhouse made no mention about the addition of a slide to the OKW pool.

Please keep comments on that topic.

Thanks

Yes, you certainly are and geez no one has called it idiotic either.
Too bad you don't have the same courtesy.

Sorry Gail, again didn't mean to offend you. For the record though, I wasn't the one who used the word "idiodic" Just totally agreed with OneMoreTry that the arguement about screaming kids was- as he edited his post to say "a bad one". The post that I was quoted as saying "we are all entitled to our opinion and that is mine" was a previous one and nowhere do I recall calling you or anone else an idiot.

That's why I said "we are all entitled to our opinions". This is suppossed to be a message board where we can all come and enjoy, discuss, gain info. and have fun. Lets try and get back on the happier track here. :wave2:

Good advice. If the OKW slide won't be built until late summer or fall, I think it would be a bit early to have it listed in the New Clubhouse. It's not like it is a major DVC resort that is being built that is discussed and promoted way in advance. I think it's too early to expect it to show up in the New Clubhouse, even with the announcement by the DVC president at the annual meetings.

I know you weren't but, you did quote it and agree with it, so, by default you called it.

Its funny but the couple of times we had to stay at OKW because the other resorts were sold out I was mad we were so far away from a pool...any pool I don't think a slide would make that much difference at the main pool...it was very noisy the days I visited. I don't own there so my opinion shouldn't count. I'm also an avid Tennis player but since I'm not playing in a competition when I'm on vacation the noise doesn't both me in fact you would probably be annoyed by me as I often break the code of etiquette when my hubby hits me on the back of the head with his serve..talk about your screams. When we tour we never play together.

Oh, that has to hurt!!! Do you like noise when you are being given instruction? I sure don't. And, Dee does enjoy a competitive match/s when on vacation. IMHO, he is entitled to a quiet location to play tennis as much as anyone is entitled to a slide at the pool.

Well, I didn't mean to quote it to say you're an idoit - just to say I agreed that the arguement was a bad one. Regardless of your opinion or mine (or all ours for that matter) what is going to happen is going to happen. So as interesting as this has all been I think it has now been talked out. My intention was not to offend you.

What a way for Disney's new president to get started. On his 2nd day Steve Jobs (Pixar and Apple president) was greeted by a crowd of protesters gathered at a Disney resort today to block construction of a slide. As protesters blocked the heavy equipment from entering the pool area at Disney's Old Key West a man identified as Richyams was carrying a bullhorn and yelling "NO CLOWNS AT OUR POOL". A woman Identified as Gail at the end of the line by the tennis courts said to this reporter that this was about environment and noise pollution. Another protestor wanted to know about an environment impact statement .He said his lawyer is going to court today to stop this Slide on behalf of the endangered turtles that live in the area. Mr. Jobs reaction to all of this was to give an ear to their grievances an issued an IPOD to each of the protesters. He also gave the protesters his word that the Slide will be put on hold until the OKW owners can take a vote.

AHEM...AHEM.... Ahem ...I must have fallen asleep. What a strange dream I just had. Something about an IPOD. Sure wish I had one.

PS to Gail Hayden ..There are tennis courts by the Turtle Pond Road next to the 4Th hole on the golf course. In my 12 years of going to OKW I've rarely seen anyone there and it is as quiet as it can get over there

I know of those tennis courts, have no interest in them, no water fountain, nothing to sit on. And, they are in need of resurfacing.
As to an IPOD I would not take one as a gift. :)

Wow what a excitable topic - the one thing I did not get from this thread was:

It is the ONLY on-site resort with a true home-away-from-home feel and I like that.

Don't understand the view expressed on that one

What is a home-away-from home feel supposed to be?

thanks
