New camper owners! Booked at fw and have ?s

We just recently bought our first camper. It's a 2010 Jayco Jay Feather Sport 199 and we've already booked our first trip to the Fort. We booked a week at the end of January 2018. We were at Disney the same week this year and it seemed like a great time to be there, crowd and weather wise. We stayed at OKW but found ourselves at the Fort 3 nights of our trip, twice for dinner at Trails End and once for the campfire.

My husband and I used to tent camp fairly often but we haven't been once since our daughter was born. She'll be five and a half when we are there next year. We actually spent four nights in a tent at FW once many years ago and it was sort of a disaster.... hopefully this will go better!

Anyway, I'm excited but nervous. DH is doing some work on the camper right now and we haven't had the chance to try it out. Hopefully we'll get some experience with it this summer. When I called Disney to book the site the girl said that the difference between full and preferred sites is the proximity to the comfort stations. Our camper has a teeny little bathroom that we can use but we were planning to rely on the comfort stations a lot as well. On her information I went with the preferred. But reading on here she was maybe not exactly right. Was preferred the right choice?

Any other advice? For those of us new to the lifestyle in general or to FW.

We are considering renting a golf cart as well. They seem pretty expensive on top of $100 per night (for a campsite in January!). Is it generally worth it?

Also my parents come with us to disney maybe every other time we visit, which is why we were in a 2br ar OKW this year. Obviously they can't join us in the camper but they may decide to come for a few nights and stay somewhere else, possibly wilderness lodge. Is there easy transportation between WL and FW? Could a golf cart travel between the two?

A few ideas to help you out-

It shows the location of the loops. I don't think the difference in full and preferred is distance to comfort stations. The difference is the location in the campground. Preferred is close to the boat dock and the restaurants.

You can not take a golf cart to the lodge but there are other options. There is a walking path through the woods. I can never remember how long it is. Maybe a little over a mile. There is the boat that runs between the fort, the lodge, and the contemporary. There is a bus that you can take from the bus stop near the hoop dee doo.

You could consider renting a golf cart from an outside vendor. Search this board for information about it. We've never done it but others here can give you advice.

Definitely do some camping this summer. Keep a list while you are there as things come up that you think of adding to the camper or as you find things that might need worked on. That's what we did when we first got our camper. It's easy to forget once you get home if you had an idea of something that needed done.

I echo G719's advice on difference of preferred vs full sites. Concerning rental of a Golf cart Check out discussions on the subject in The Camping Community forum. I would also recommend making a few early test trips near home, in fact I recommend that you take your very first one to a very exotic Destination Camp Your Own BackYard use only the Bath room as you would a CS in any other CG the rest of the house is off limits odds are your daughter will love it Our neighbor did it with the grandkids and now they want to live out there. If you have family and friends who camp ask them for recommendations about local CG;s and see if they can come along as the more friends the better

The difference in the loops, as was stated is the preferred are closer to the dock area, but farther from the meadows area/ movie, sing along area. The premiums are all paved and are for larger rigs usually. Full hook up and Preferred are the same, just a matter of location, both have a sand pad at the rear of the pavement.

Congrats on your new-to-you camper.

You got some great answers above. I will add on about your parents staying at WL when they come also. That would be a good resort for them because there is a bus and boat option to travel between the WL and the Fort. Along with that, you might want to book a Preferred campsite on the trips when your parents are at WL. Preferred campsites are loops 100 & 200 (300 also but a pet loop) and are very close (short walk) to where the boats come in and the bus stop from WL is.

We have stayed in Preferred the last couple trips and like them.

The rest have nailed it. The Preferred are my favorites due to be so close to the boat dock and the Settlement where Trails End and HooDeeDo are located. We had friends that came down with us one time. They stayed at Wilderness Lodge because it was close to the Fort. It worked out perfect. Easy boat and bus transportation back and forth. The only problem we had was one night we decided to take the boat over to the Contemporary for dinner at California Grill. We had late reservations and decided to hang out at one of the bars after dinner. We stayed a lot later than we intended. When we staggered, I mean walked casually, to the boat dock. The boats had stopped running... and the buses. We ended up getting a taxi and spending some huge amount to ride over to a place we could see.
