Boy that went fast... Deposit on 12/15, Passed ROFR a week later, and boom, we closed today. Yeah!!!!

Not a huge contract, only 100 points, but since we live in Idaho we won't likely be traveling to to Florida but every 2-3 yrs anyway, so I think that works out pretty well for our needs. :)

Now for a question...

We have a December use year, and 80 '08 points which I plan to bank. The trip we are PLANNING (though might change our minds) would start the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 2010... we could still USE those banked 'O8 points that weekend, right? And the '09 points would still be useable, and we would get our '10 points then too if we planned an 11 day stay? (could even borrow or '11 points if we WANTED??) I

I realize that is cutting it close as far as potentially losing those '08 points if we had to make a change in our plans... we are also considering doing a Sept stay '10 instead, but that doesn't fit quite as well with our travel plans (we homeschool and are planning an East Coast history tour, ending at the World, and would LOVE to be there for the Christmas decor!).

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Heidi

Hello Heidi,

Welcome Home!

My meager understanding says your stay will extend over your end of use year (I think 11/30). You have some strategic planning to do, but what a wonderful problem to solve.

Hope to see you posting here much more!

??

December 08 passed these would have expired by now, I hope previous owners banked them for you.

If they did they must be used by Dec 31, 2009.

Welcome Home!! I don't have the expertise needed to answer your question, but since we are BWV neighbors, I just wanted to say

Your December 2008 UY points are currently available from Dec 1 2008 - Nov 30 2009 and
are STILL BANKABLE.

2008 UY points must be banked by July 31 2009. You my use banked 2008 UY points for November 2010 trip because once they are banked into your
2009 UY they are available from Dec 1 2009 through November 30 2010.

Once banked ( or borrowed ) points can't be put back into the Use Year
they are originally from; so just keep in mind that banking and borrowing are final transactions.

In DECEMBER 2009 you may call for a reservation for NOV 2010 at your Home Resort so I just want to point this out because it is a common mistake made when points need to be borrowed ...
do not confuse calendar year with Use Year when it comes to making a reservation - you may always make a reservation 11 months before the check-in date you'd want at your HOME RESORT ( MS will borrow any points if necessary at that time ) and if you want a reservation at a DVC that is not your Home Resort you may call for reservation from 7 months before your check in date.

Your 2009 UY points are available as well ( from Dec 1 2009 - Nov 30 2010)

Your 2010 UY points may be borrowed into 2009 UY

BUT NO 2011 points are not available unless part of your reservation falls AFTER

December 1 2010 or later. November 2010 dates still are within your ~2009 UY~

and only 2010 UY points can be borrowed into the 2009 Use Year.

I'm pretty sure that December 2008 points arrived in her account on December 1, 2008. They must be used by November 30, 2009 or she can bank them by July 31, 2009. If she banks them, they would need to be used by November 30, 2010.

she has 6 months to deposit Dec, 08 - they just got them last month.

since you use is dec

dec, 08 to nov ,09 - is 2008
dec, 09 - nov, 10 - is 2009
dec, 10 - nov, 11 is 2010
you want to go in Nov, 2010 - yea think you can use them.

you will have banked 2008, 2009 and you can borrow in 2010 - but not 2011

Ok, so it SOUNDS like what I thought is true is true... although perhaps a bit confusing! :) Our trip would start on November 27th (a Saturday) and go for 11 days (or maybe a couple more) so yes, it WOULD go into Dec and we should be then able to borrow from our 2011 use year.

Thank you for the Welcome Home wishes! I am so excited! We fell in LOVE with BWV when we paid to stay there 1 1/2 yrs ago, had a most marvelous room on the Village Green with THE best balcony I have ever seen... I know we will probably never see THAT room again, but it sure made up for a disasterous stay over at AKL.

You've got it ! MS will borrow what is needed from 2011 Use Year allotment for dates that are reserved from Dec 1 2010 and on. Just be sure to make your first call to MS on December 27 2009 which is your 11 month Home Resort booking window. :)

Have a great time planning and wish you many wonderful DVC memories in the years to come :thumbsup2 BWV is fantastic!! our points are all at OKW but BWV is our next favorite place !

Thanks Laura! :)

Should I be at all concerned that our trip starts the saturday after Thanksgiving as far as getting a room? DH wondered if I should book it to start before Thanksgiving, then go back on the 27th and change it to the "real dates" so as to be sure I am not competing with those who are planning stays for just over Thanksgiving....

We're waiting on a similar contract to pass ROFR right now...hope our timetable can be as quick!

Well you can Book 11 months out since you own at BWV. But DONOT dilly dally around, VERY VERY busy season at WDW for us DVC members, as well as other Guests, But you'll see alot of owners go during the Holidays. Determine when you want to stay then call as soon as your ressie window opens for best selection.

Oh and CONGRATS to you both:thumbsup2

Welcome to BWV.

As a homeschooling family we have visited in both September and the week you are planning. The decorations are amazing for Christmas, but the crowds can be terrible.
September has great weather and very manageable crowds. I have read on the homeschool chat under the Family board about homeschool days at WDW in September but haven't gotten much info. You might want to check that out to make your decision.
Again, welcome and hope you enjoy your purchase as much as we are.

Welcome Home new BWV neighbor. We also have a 100 point contract and we have managed to have some sort of DVC trip each year. We are going to Hilton Head tomorrow for the MLK weekend and then home in March for DW's 40th b-day. Believe it or not, 100 points are enough for an annual trip if you plan it right.

:welcome: Home!
What a great problem to have - planning that trip! Congratulations!

Oh I am sure that 100 pts is enough for an annual trip, but since we need to drive from Idaho we prefer to stay for a longer period of time when we go. :)

Our nearly 12 yr old is disabled and has a LOT of gear that needs to come with us (Oxygen, wheelchair, bipap, formula, IV supplies, etc) and air travel is just really.. STRESSFUL when we have to fly! We just find it more relaxing to drive, and then stay for at least 10 days! Someday when the kids are grown and gone, or at least when DH and I can do more on our own we will probably go more often for shorter stays, well, maybe, LOL... but for now this works really well for us.

Do you mean like booking on Dec 22 for 7 nights to cover 11/27-11/28 and then on Dec 23 dropping 11/22 and add 11/29 etc. or on Dec 24 booking
for 7 nights to cover 11/27-11/30 and then on Jan 1 dropping 11/24-11/26 and add 7 nights for 12/1 - 12/7 ? ..... I haven't ever done this with any reservations we've made but it has been posted here about walking a reservation forward - I don't want to give you incorrect insights on this, because I don't have first hand experience myself on doing resi this way & I haven't as of yet booked at a DVC for this time of year, but I think examples Ive made is what reserving like this would be ( bumping or walking forward the dates).

Im sure others here can better fill you in than I can based on their experiences and with suggestions for booking for Thanksgiving weekend into December especially since it does tend to be busy time with holiday happenings, etc. - just one of many things that's so great about asking questions here on the DIS, finding out what other members have experienced or recommend :flower3:

It sounds like it will be an awesome trip :)
