DD9 is soooo responsible.:flower3: She is making business cards as we speak! She loves kids...and is trying to get herself customers, as a "helping hand". She says if Mom's are busy trying to clean the house, wanting to scrapbook, or just take a nap she will "help out" with the little ones for $1.50 an hour. Of course the mom/dad needs to be home...but does this seem like a good idea to anyone? My friends and their kids LOVE her already because she is so good with them. I just think it is a great idea....I wish I would have known someone like her when they were little.

Sounds like a great deal. I used to have a little girl who helped me out when my boys were very little. She was great. She loved the kids, and I could make dinner, or clean house with out having to worry about what my kids were getting into. Also the kids loved her. She still comes to visit sometimes. I also have a friend who has a "mothers helper" The girl is 10 and lives down the street from her.

Would you let her come to the UK I could so use her :) Currently using the TV probably not as educational :rotfl:

I think that's an awesome idea for your dd!! I would love to have a young girl available and willing to do that for me. And the price is great, too! Good luck to your daughter. :)

I have seriously considered looking for a mature pre teen to occupy my child while I take nap or do some homework (working on masters.) Have not found one in my neighborhood though!

You should be proud of her! I would love to be able to find someone like that. I've used my DH's nieces but they just sit and watch TV with my son, if I wanted him to watch TV, I wouldn't need them! Good for her!

Wow, good for her! Maybe she could offer lessons for other 9 year old girls on how to help out around the house - I have one living here I could send over...:rolleyes1

I've been dying for a Mother's Helper but no one around here has any interest. I think it is a fabulous idea and at $1.50/hr she should be booked up pretty quick! :thumbsup2

I was going to say she should raise her rate ;) I pay my 10 yo mother's helper $5/hr and usually feed her lunch as well.

I agree, she could ask for more! Another idea to add to her business is a mom's helper during birthday parties. When my kids were younger, I used to pay DD & her friend to be my helpers at her younger sibling's parties. They'd be the runners to get the condiments, help decorate, write the gifts down, etc. It made it much less stressful when there was a house of preschoolers to have some extra hands & let the moms relax & visit. I always told them it'd be a great business idea but they never tried it.

Good luck to her, I bet she gets lots of business!

I used one when DS was an infant and would use one again when DD is older (think it's too much for someone that age to handle a toddler and baby, even when I'm home). I also agree that she could charge more - depending what babysitters around you charge. I would say half of what the going rate for a high school babysitter is would be fair. (I paid $4 per hour, compared to $8-10 for a sitter.) And it's a great way to get experience with children so that she'll be an even better babysitter down the road!

Awwweee...thanks you guys!! I just showed her, what all of you wrote! She was smiles from ear to ear.:flower3: She is a very good girl. I am very proud of her! She has decided to raise her rate, to $2, after all of your prompting!;)
She has all of her business cards ready (they are index cards with flowers she stenciled on), and we will distribute them tomorrow. She is a very good worker. We let her get her own debit card, for her bank account, so she is very eager to watch it grow. I have to take her this week, to our local apple orchard, so she can pick up the "grounders" that they use for juice! She thinks she can pick a whole bin, which pays $17.50.:)

I've hired a "mother's helper" before, but she was 12. I paid her $3 per hour and she was my second set of hands so I could do things around the house. I have a DD9 and I trust her with our DS3. But I also know 9 year olds have short attention spans and I wouldn't take a 2 hour nap without some supervision. Just make sure the moms understand the arrangement and don't leave the house for any reason. Dealing with emergencies would be too much to ask of a 9 year old. Good luck to your DD!

She would not be comfortable dealing with some situations. That being said, I would totally rather have her babysit any child, before my niece, 13. Some kids (and adults) for that matter, just have common sense. Some do not. I think, she is a little more mature because I am honest with her. She isn't into boys or anything like that (thank goodness). But the other day, she asked about girls getting their cycle. So I told her. My cousin about died. Her daughters are 12 and 10 and have no clue. She also knows about the whole birds and bees thing! She's a good girl and will do well! Thanks for all the good wishes!;)
