New booking policy- cancelling the 1st day

My biggest contention isn't necessarily with the new policy. I am willing to give it a chance but..... I really don't appreciate Disney changing the policy with no lead in or notice. The only way we even know about this is because someone called to make a reservation, was told about it and posted it on the internet. Nice. Thanks Disney! Where is the Disney difference and customer service in the way you handled this one!!!??

There isn't just the problem of "gaming" the system. There is still an advantage to those who are simply booking earlier than you to get the same rooms. Those booking 7 days will in general have an advantage over those booking shorter stays. Especially those booking whatever may be a "typical" 7 day vacation (Sat-Fri, or Sun-Sat, whatever happens to occur more often) where rooms may be booked in a lock-stepped fashion week to week.

Far more details are available in the other (albeit quite long) thread.

SAme thing can happen making any reservation. If I call a hotel and make a ressie, but they are booked up from people making ressies a few days earler for multi nights, I am out of luck. This process seems better than calling daily, imo.

Except that a hotel doesn't have a rule prohibiting you from calling at any time to book your stay. If you decide in May you want to stay in June of the following year, you can call and book it. With the DVC booking rules, you wouldn't be able to book at all until July for the following June.

It's two totally different things.

Under the old system, I called at 9:00am on the 11 month mark using day by day and always got my reservation. Some people could have been calling simulataneously but no one could have called a day earlier.

I can live with this new system, but not with the provision that you can scam it by making a reservation and then cancelling the first nights.

See I didn't like the old system because I don't have the ability to call at 9:00am every day for a week to get the reservation I want. I'd have to call out sick for a week from work in order to make those phone calls; then there is no time left for vacation. People like me have always had to take what was left over, after people who called day-by-day @ 9am got what they wanted.

This just seems more equitable to me and a lot less hassle for everyone involved.

Sorry I have to disagree with you. And most DVC owners also disagree because it takes away the home booking advantage and the advantage seems to go to owners with more points and/or families booking even 1 day prior to your preferred holiday.

This new system is definitely not equitable. There's a whole thread discussing the problem that it creates.

Maybe there is a really small percentage of owners that are in your position to not call at 9am to reserve specific room types at specific dates, and for those, this system might help??? But for the other 95% who find a way to call at the 11 month mark, this proposed system changes the way DVC works entirely.

I contacted the DVC Member Satisfaction Team via e-mail - drafting an explanation of the "loophole" issue, asking them to consider a solution for it. If you wish, you may contact the DVC Member Satisfaction Team at dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com. The more comments they get about it, the more likely they'll do something.

But if they restrict that, what if you really do need to cancel the first few days because of plan changes, I don't think that would be fair to all of us who are honest people. Don't ruin what already could have some positive outcomes

this means in order to get what i want to book i now have to book days i dont what in order to get days i do want then cancel the days not wanted ie book sat /sun /mon/tuse/wed/thus/fri then on monday phone again to cancel week end what a waste of time :headache:

I think we should give it a chance and wait and see how it works out. I also think - again JMHO here - that most people are honest and wouldn't "scam" the system (that's using alot of negative energy), and I would hope I am correct in saying that there will be no more of these scammers than there are now, trying to "pull a fast one" - odds are in our favor :confused3

I don't anticipate a problem with booking dates. I don't know how to start a poll, (never did one), but I wonder how many people check in on a Sunday? As opposed to like a Thursday through Wednesday? Wouldn't that also affect the availability loophole being discussed on the boards?
If most people book for check in on Sundays, wouldn't be the same chances as always?

Just trying to figure this out, but again IMHO we should wait and see how it goes.....

I think your estimate is way off. 95% of members never even used the 11mth window. Like others have said....there is always abuse.....these people are in the minority. I don't think we can make an entire policy over the fact that some people think the rules don't apply to them and will "abuse" the system.

I never used day by day before....but I'm glad that I don't have to call every day. IMO that gives the "obsessive planners" the edge....most people are not like this.

edit....it's like saying we can't go Non smoking because some people will still smoke.

I did just that this morning and even quoted the way the loophole would work.

Funny...I did the same....I wrote a letter though saying I am happy with the change....but they might want to checkout the "loopholes" being reported.
