new blog: The Rapid Fill Mug program debuts at Walt Disney World

the side of the mug says it it "good until the end of your resort stay" but that only applies if you purchased length of stay--they may have to modify that

I wonder how they are going to handle split stays. We are doing a split stay this Christmas and I don't want to have to purchase 2 sets because one stay is for 3 days and the other 3+.

Okay, so here is my "senior moment" question - we have the dining plan for our upcoming visit, we get a "free" refillable mug. Now, do we have to pay to have the mug activated for use while we are there? $17.99 for length of stay is not that much, considering how much soda hubby drinks, on our last cruise we paid way more. But if it is advertised and assumed that one is getting a FREE mug, one would assume that the activation is included. Please inform this Senior. Thanks in advance.

So the mug "looks" very similar to the old ones. So was wondering....since they only sell 3 colors...can I bring a lid from an old one? So we have FD and would get 4 mugs....the colors of the lids are different then the old ones so can I bring a pink top from an old one and put it on a new one so we all have different colors? I know mine would have a mismatched lid and handle but I really don't care.

I don't know all of the rules for the new program, but if you receive a mug as part of a disney dining plan you do not pay to have it activated. It was "paid" for as part of your DDP, whether a part of free dining [since I don't know if that's what you have] or not.

Initial reports indicated that the length of stay was actually 14 days. (And potentially longer if your trip was longer). The terms on the poster say that it is good at any resort self service station. So if you buy length of stay, you should be fine.

What I am confused about is how much this will cost, maybe I am not understanding it.
The prices that were announced is that including the mug? or is the mug one price and the activation is another price?:confused3

The prices include the mug and the activation all in one. The program is mostly the same as the old one for purchasing the mug. There are now 3 different prices based on how long you will be using the mug though.

If you have DDP then the mug and activation is included for no additional charge. My understanding from other things I have read are that split stays are covered by the fact that you can use the mug at any resort QS location. This is new and an improvement.

I think the only real downside is those guests who may want to mix sodas since you need to wait 3 minutes between fill ups. Not sure exactly how this works though so this may not end up being an issue.

I always like to add a splash of regular coke to my diet, it makes it taste better. We also like to do half coffee/hot choc too!

I read you can do multiple flavors at one time because the strip on the mug will show the mug capacity is not full until the number of oz has dispensed. The computer screen will say full then the lockout time will start. I have not tried it so this is only going by what I read.

I am staying 3 nights pre cruise and 3 nights post. So, I'll have to buy new ones when I check back in after the cruise?

I wonder how this will effect free refills at a food court when you purchase a regular drink with your meal? :confused3 For example, I love to eat at Mara at AKL and usually do not have a refillable mug with me. I am able to get free refills at the drink station with the drink I buy at the time of my meal. [just for that one meal, of course]

Actually, now that I think about it, you even have to do the initial drink fill at the drink station. I better re-read the article.

I found my own answer. Apparently, if you purchase a disposable cup for a drink with your meal, you can refill it up to 4x in 2 hours. So does that mean they will have an RFID chip in them also? If not, how will the drink machine know it can dispense soda into your cup? Now, that's a sentence I never thought I would say. :p

I am wondering about this too. Since most people have 4 in their room, it would make sense to have 4 colors available... I know we could swap the lids around to make four different cups, but I cannot see my two young children understanding that.:confused3

We are a family of 4 too so we have this problem every year too. What we do is let the kids choose their colors and then hubby and I choose ours (one of ours will be the same color as one of the kids) but hubby and I will swap our lids.

Does anyone know how water is handled under the new system? Not bottled water obviously but the filtered water that comes out of the dispenser - do you 'need' a RFID cup to get that? Ditto ice does it just 'come out'?

DD likes to drink filtered but not bottled water. We will not have RFID cups.

Thanks!
