new blog: Sunglass Hut Opening in Magic Kingdom's Adventureland

Utilizing the entire store space just for sunglasses seems pretty crazy. That store has some nice decor and theming. I remember my kids loved to peruse the items even if we didn't buy anything. There was always interesting things to look at.

I have to believe that this is temporary. Especially when sales fall flat at that location.

I was reading a post on another website that said, while the sunglasses are expensive by American standards. They are a steal for international customers. So they expect to make a good deal of money from foreigners that don't venture off Disney property.

I'll the lone dissenter here (very alone )...

For what it is, I don't think it looks that bad. If I were to be in a land called Adventure, and they happened to have a store selling sunglasses, this is what I would expect it to look like. :)

Ah that makes sense. I was wondering who would be buying them, other than people who happened to break theirs while there. Forgot about the international folks.

Yeah, I didn't mind it in theory, but the store looks lousy. It needs more theming, and maybe a slightly more diverse product line. I don't know what Sunglass Hut usually sells aside from sunglasses, but a couple Hawaiian shirts or print dresses wouldn't hurt.

Not a fan of this at all. If you need to add something to Adventureland (a holy ground), don't make it some corporate boring sunglasses store!

I made it a point to check out the Sunglass Hut when I was at MK on Wednesday. I wanted to see what all the backlash here was about.

I did see the signage from a little ways away and that stuck out, but the signage itself wasn't overly mall-ish. I thought the theming was fine, it didn't look out of place. I poked around for a few minutes and was surprised there wasn't ANY Disney merch available, at least that I could see. It would have been nice to have some Disney stuff in there considering it is in Disney world. Much like how I wish the Starbucks sold some Disney-themed treats in their shop. Oh well.

Overall, it doesn't really bother me that the shop is there. I poked around for maybe 3 minutes and then left. There were a lot more employees in there than customers and that was a bit annoying. I think there were 4-5 customers browsing and probably 8-10 employees lurking around and at least three of them asked if I needed help. No thanks, just looking. I didn't like that, but I'm sure it was because it just opened.
