new blog: Review: “Maleficent” or How Disney Made a Hilariously Bad B-Movie

Thank you for writing this. I've seen been way too many mixed reviews where I want to avoid Maleficent. The sad thing is the trailer seems to have some action and a different take on the Sleeping Beauty from the original. I do like darker things and it's bad that it ends up being a mess from much I've read on this.

I really enjoyed the film. Like everyone said some things were unnecessary like the name changing and some cheesy ness. However the film itself was really well done. The scenery was beautiful, Angelina Jolie captured the stoic nature of maleficent perfectly and this twist on the story was very interesting. And yes it is a twist, if you look at in that light the story is very entertaining. It makes sense to see how maleficent was hardened and made evil and how that brought her into an obsession that including becoming involved in Auroras life. Her mind is taken over by the concept of revenge that she gets sucked into spying and watching every moment of Auroras life. Yes it may have been used in frozen but I like the realism of true loves kiss not coming from someone they don't even know. Yes some things could have been expanded on but they are good additions to the story themselves. The pixies seemed like a good version of themselves for the most part. For those saying aurora is annoying, she was given gifts that would make her that way. In our world someone who is always cheery is considered annoying but that is accurate to the character. Overall it wasn't the greater movie ever and not on par with some of the scriptwriters other films in the writing area but it was an enjoyable movie.

Ditto. Shaun and Craig are awesome. Bravo to Pete to very publicly sticking up for them. Thanks to the whole crew for another great weekly dose of "edutainment". I can't wait to meet all of these awesome people a the GKTW meet next weekend!

Saw the movie today and have to go with the reviewers on this..
I was surprised at how many young children (ages 3ish-7ish) were in attendance.
Was glad I went with the matinee ticket instead of the $15 IMAX 3D ticket.

Excellent, Jack. For real, you made me laugh out loud. Well, maybe it was more like a giggle but that just isn't as great an acronym (GOL?)

As for the review, I saw it when it was first posted and thought, "Hmmm, Craig and Shaun don't like the movie and they loved Frozen and Saving Mr. Banks so it must be as bad as they say." It wasn't ever going to stop me from seeing it but it certainly changed my level of excitement for it. And like someone else just said, I might be more inclined to get the matinee seats instead of IMAX 3D. I get that it is just an opinion but like John and Kevin's restaurant reviews, they haven't steered me wrong yet. Ya gotta love good people you can trust.

I disliked the movie as well for many of the same reasons you stated. But I do think that the one thing in your review that doesn't make sense is calling it a B-movie. That term generally means low budget. For all the many faults the film had it did have solid production value, and Disney didn't skimp on it (if it doesn't have staying power in the box office it could still struggle to make back its budget).
