Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World used to be a great place to spend some time as a local or tourist. This area in Walt Disney World is currently being transformed into Disney Springs. The project is expected to be finished in 2016. If you visit during the construction you should keep it mind it is going to be challenging if you drive here and expect to find a parking spot easily.

Val stopped at DTD with her brother and two of his grandchildren last night (Tuesday, 5/24). She said it was a horror. And that's not a parking comment, since I dropped them off.

Also, there apparently have been changes to the boat service between DTD and SSR. I called Disney Info from our room at SSR about 8pm and was told that the boat left from a dock near the Rainforest Cafe. Not so. The boat dock was over on the west side. :(

They wound up taking the bus back to SSR.

As they say: you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. I would rather they do everything at once rather than dragging out the construction over several more years. Thanks for posting the concept art!

Went there last week when I came down for vacation. Boy talk about changes ! Hadn't been there since last year. I worked at WDW 18 years and my first job there was at the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village (now called Downtown Disney Marketplace.) I moved around to different restaurants in the village before transferring to CRO ( Central Reservations.) I saw many changes at the village over the years but none to the extent of this. My beloved Captain Jacks got torn down, which bummed me out. I get the point that it wasn't doing that well and a change was needed but that was the only remaining restaurant/shop that was one of the original venues when the village originally opened. Call me nostalgic but sometimes I wish they would leave well enough alone : (
