New annual pass question

Bought annual passes for myself and family online for Disneyland. Since you have to go to turnstiles to exchange e-ticket/voucher you receive via e-mail for a single day ticket and then before you leave for that day go to ticket booth to finish the process and get your actual card which in turn you need to re-enter the park to have your picture taken so that it shows up on their screen the next time you use the pass. My question is since this is the first time you are going to the park and they exchange your printed e-ticket/voucher for a single day ticket, can you go on any day even if that day would normally be a blackout day for the pass? Especially since you wont have your card/annual pass until you go to the ticket booth to get them. Thanks in advance.

Yes. You could also go directly to the ticket booth and ask for an exception ticket for the day and just get your picture taken right away.

So is that a yes, blackout days do not apply to first day of unprocessed pass/voucher? After which normal blackout dates would apply, correct?

They don't apply, but if you go to the ticket booths, get your AP and then go to the gate they won't let you in. You need to get the exception pass from the ticket booth to show at the turnstile.

Found this from another post from last year and thought it was useful information:

"Blockout days NEVER apply on:

-First day of use on a NEW AP. (Disney really should post this one on their website or on the eTicket vouchers)

-Upgrades from daily tickets to an AP that is blocked.

-IN PERSON AP renewals at the main entrance Ticket booths."

That is their policy. But there is nothing on the AP card that says it's new and when they scan it at the turnstile it doesn't tell the CM to let you through. You need the exception paper for the turnstile CM to admit you. This is not that complicated. Yes you can use the AP, but if you buy it or renew it and don't tell the CM at the ticket booth that you're going in the park and they don't ask if you're going in the park and you walk away with a brand new AP in your hand it won't scan properly at the turnstile on a blockout day, even if it's the day you bought the AP. Just tell the CM at the ticket booth that you want to go in the park that day.
