New American Idol Discussion - Winners Info Don't look unless want to know who won!!!

I am the only one that thought that Diana's version of "I Believe" was soooo much better than Fantasia's? I had such chills when Diana sang it tonight, it reminded me of Kelli singing "A Moment Like This" on the finale of AI 1.

I wish that Diana had won, as I think that Fantasia would have done well either way.

Fantasia is technically a "better" singer, but I don't care for her style at all (neither do my kids) and I really did not like her version of the single. I hope Diana can have the kind of success that Clay has had. Did they announce the number of votes this year or did they learn their lesson from the flubs of last season? I wonder if it was close or a landslide for Fantasia?

Do you think Diana's poor performance on Don't Cry Out Loud last night cost her the competition?

Hearing Ruben again makes me appreciate him all the more. As much as I like Clay, I just love Ruben's voice and I thought the song was good.

I feel the same way when I her Fantasia's version of the song. Diana's voice just doesn't move me. Fantasia sings with so much feeling and soul.

I can't wait to get the single.

Isn't it funny how people can react so differently to hearing the same music? I'm glad to hear that you were moved by Fantasia's version, and I agree that she does sing with a lot of feeling and emotion. I am happy for her, but that does not make me like her singing any more! I am not one of the "Fantasia Haters", but from what I've heard I will not likely be buying one of her cd's.

That could change though depending on the songs she releases. I'm sure with songs that are chosen/written just for her she will sound better than on the show. Good luck to them both!

Although I like Diana better, she just isn't a "Pop" idol, more of a country or broadway star. Fantasia is ok, won't buy her album, but she will make a better "pop" idol then Diana.

I would have been happy if either Fantasia or Diana won. I don't like her style, but Fantasia had more talent. I would have been happier if La Toya won. Oh well, it was an exciting, if not frustrating season. Honestly, I just watch the show for enjoyment and entertainment. I would never even think of going out and buying any of their music. It's so sad to see how mean people have gotten about this whole thing. I think that Diana and Fantasia have a good relationship. It's a shame that people have to ruin that by making rude and uncalled for comments. It's just a tv show for goodness sake! :)

Did you all notice when ryan called her family up and the security wouldn't let them up on stage???

I liked diana better. Did you hear that some votes were not even counted in and there is a big controversy there.

I am so happy that Fantasia won - she was my favorite from the get-go! I love the character of her voice.

My DD was not so happy, however. Although she's only 5, we let her stay up late on Tuesday nights because she loves to watch the performances. After the first few weeks, she knew the full names of her favorites (Amy Adams, Jon Stevens, George Huff) and was saddened to see each of them leave. Tonight, when my DH and I yelled with elation upon hearing Fantasia announced as the winner, DD told me I was mean and started to cry because she was so sad that Diana lost! We were so surprised, and touched that she cares so much. This kid loves music!

Anyway, congrats to Fantasia!

P.S. I loved Tamyra in the past - what the heck happened with that performance tonight?!? It was ear-splitting!

Ok, I'm sure that a few of you won't like what I have to say, but here goes....... I'm NOT a Fantasia hater, but I don't really care for her voice. As Simon said on one of the earlier nights, "her voice has a cartoon-like sound to it. Like Donald Duck on helium". All of her songs "sound" the same. I have a very extensive musical back ground and her voice to me wasn't too appealling to me. She does sing well and I was voting for her in her group of 10 at the beginning.

I believe that Diana has a powerhouse voice that can sing several types of music. The thing that was against her was her age. She is ONLY 16 and sounds that good. I can only hope that my children can sing that good at that age. You also have to take into consideration that she STILL had school and had to attend classes while doing all this! She even had a term paper due TODAY! Not too much pressure for a 16 year old. I have a feeling that she will do what Clay did last year and make something for herself.

Either way, it was still a great show! I was happy for Fantasia and wish all the best for Diana as well. They BOTH will have great careers!

THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE...... is the judges!! Don't get me wrong, I love them BUT did anyone else notice last night that they didn't really "critic the song" (except for Diana's last song). It was like they had already decided who was the American Idol and that Diana was just there to "go through the motions". Randy said something like "you really came here tonight to win" which is fine, but the way all of them complimented Diana, it was as if they were talking down to her or something. Maybe I read into what and how they say things, but I really think they gave it to Fantasia last night. Paula calling Fantasia last night THE American idol rubbed me the wrong way. It was like Diana didn't have a prayer!

Also, another side note, even if you didn't watch the final out come tonight and watched the pre-show, you could tell who was going to win by looking at the dressing rooms. Diana had NOTHING in her room, but Fantasia had flowers galory and the tiffany candle from Tony Braxton. Come on, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes!

Oh well, it is still a great show and will watch it again in January! I was so happy to see my John Stevens again! (yes, I'm one of those people who liked the boy!)

I never cared for Fantasia's voice either. How can Simon tell her she sounds like Donald Duck on helium and then say she is the best singer on AI ever? I was dissappointed with Ruben last year but at least he had a voice I could listen to, Fantasia's I can not.

Who is gonna buy Fantasia's album? She has a gospel-soul voice of sorts, not a "pop star" voice.
I just don't see waves of teenagers buying her album. People may have voted for her 100's of times but no ones buys 100's of copies of the same album. Should be interesting to see how it does.

My husband just made a really good point. He thought that Fantasia was a good win because now Ruben has someone to tour with. The American Idol tours have been without Reuben because they felt he didn't fit the bill. Now they can tour together. I saw Reuben a couple of months ago in STL. It was like watch a very young Luther Vandross. He went to high school with my little sister (Huffman) and he went to Alabama A & M - so did I - but I've been gone from there. He is a "few" years younger than me!!!!!!

I was an officialy Fantasia Fan from the beginning and God knows it was hard to be on this board holding on to that conviction!!

Last night I felt like all of my devotion was finally justified.

Fantasia would've been a big star without my support, but I felt like she at least needed support with all of the naysayers here. Right now I feel like Paula did the other night, like a Mom watching her kid prosper!

Who will buy her album? The same people who like her music. Though this may be a shock to you, R&B has always sold. Ask Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight. I could ask that question about several people I don't like either, but there are millions who will always disagree with me, too.

I still think Diana will do well, she was an amazing young lady through this, humble and kind the whole time. She carried herself like a woman way beyond her years, especially last night. She cannot lose and I think she deserves the award for the "Most Improved!"

God bless them both.
