I'm so excited! We had been thinking about joining DVC, but not for a year or two, but the double developer points made it possible for us to plan a really big vacation for extended family, so we decided to go for it now.

We bought two AKV contracts--160pts and 25pts. (I would never have known about the value of small contracts if not for the folks here.) They gave us the double developer points on BOTH contracts. Normally there is a 100-point minimum, but since I was getting both contracts at the same time they made an exception.

We also got a September UY. Officially, there was only March and April available, but our guide called and was able to find something in September, which is good since we will usually travel in Feb and April, and the way I understand it, having a March UY wouldn't be great on the off-chance we had to cancel.

Plus, we were able to get TWO 2-bedroom villas! One value and one savanna view. For President's Week! It all worked out so well! And we will still have plenty of 2008 points to bank for later.

All in all, the whole experience was so easy and non-pressure. We have another timeshare in Mexico that we adore, but the sales staff was so pushy. It was like night and day.

Congrats! I'm looking to buy into AKV, too. A quick question for you - with the September use year, did they give you 185 points now (the 160 +25), and will you get another set of 185 on September 1, 2007? If so, can you bank the points they gave you now? I know that you have to use the double developer points within 7 months and you can't bank those. However, I'm still a little confused on how they initially allot the regular points.

TIA!

You know, that's a good question. Originally we were discussing everything as if it were a March UY. The Sept UY was the last thing we fiddled with.

I think I get 185 9/07, 185 9/08 plus my 370 developer points I need to use within the next 7 months (not a problem--we're going in Feb). But OMG, if I get ANOTHER 185 points right now, that would ROCK.

I let you know what happens.

Congratulations JBCB! Welcome Home!

I think that you would get your first points Sept 2007 since AKV did not exist in Sept 2006 and it would have had to to get Sept 2006 points which is what they would be if you were to get points right now with a Sept year.

Congrats and Welcome Home:yay:

I think you're probably right.

And of course I'm already thinking about adding on! LOL. Not for a while for sure...

Welcome home, we just bought 180 points on Thursday and took the March UY. Works great for us since we travel in July. We are going to try and head down before Christmas and then we get another 180 points in March for our July trip.

There are no 2006 points at AKV. If you purchase a Sep UY, your first set of AKV points are Sep '07 points. The developer points provide a substitute for '06 points. Getting double developer points is a nice bonus, provided you can use them within their 7-month lifetime.

Thanks, LisaS. The double developer points worked perfectly for us, as we wanted to travel in February.

And the amazing thing is---by my calculations, just with this one visit we'll have earned back half of our initial investment. (We're getting two 2-bedroom villas for either 6 or 7 days).

Of course if I --weren't-- a DVC member, I wouldn't be getting accomodations for my whole extended family, so I suppose if I were being technical about the whole thing, I'd only count the cost of just one 2-bedroom unit...

But I figure you can't really put a price on the fun.

Congrats Julie and Welcome Home! We just added on 200 AKV points with a Sep 07 UY. We will receive 200 points on 09/07 - zero for 06. I also asked our guide (Celeste - very nice and helpful) if we could take a March 07 UY. She didn't say no but discouraged it because our other contracts are Sep UYs. In the end, I decided keeping everything under the same account with the better flexibility with the points was better than having separate UY contracts and the hassle involved with transferring points. We also decided to take the 400 developer points vs the $8/pt discount. We have a 399-pt Dec ressie for which the developer points will come in quite handy. :)

Did you have to pay extra closing costs for 2 contracts vice 1? We just purchased 185 points at AKV (bought and paid for yesterday) and didn't even think to ask about splitting them into 2 transactions.
