I just bought this very nice five-star J C Penney collection white satin stripe comforter/duvet, and the fill in each section is just like in a big lump.
:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

I do not want my bed to be bare fabric, interspersed with unsightly lumps of fill.
It is not even remotely smooth, and really looks ridiculous.

I've never seen this before in any other comforter that we have.

Should I just take it right back????

Is it because it is new?
Should I try putting it in the dryer?

<...sigh...> arggghhhh!!!!

Anybody have any experience with this?

Does it have baffle box construction? That's when the comforter is divided into smaller squares, that each contain some down, and another layer of fabric is sewn in. The squares are sewn completely shut so that the down can't slip around but stays more evenly distributed. That might be your problem. I had one that was partially sewn into boxes-the down slipped into a couple sections and was awful.

Okay, yes the comforter is sewn into self contained boxes... This is supposed to help keep the fill evenly distributed. The problem is that the fill in each box is like in a lump. Very bumpy.

I am looking online here, and I find that Good Housekeeping rates this comforter in their top five!!!!

I just love the divine cotton satin-strip fabric.

But, no way I can handle lumps.

Yes, baffle box design is most common among the better comforters. Without that feature -- without the lumps -- we would have to basically refluff the comforter every day, or all of the filling would end up as a log by our feet.

I think the way it works is that the better the quality, the smaller the boxes are, and so the lumpiness is less noticeable. Of course, there is a limit. Make the boxes too small, and the comforter isn't fluffy anymore, but just like a blanket.

Take it back.

A few months ago, I was scouring the world for a new comforter. I spent a lot of time on the JC Penney site because they have such a large selection. However, when I could find any "reviews" on the internet about their comforters, the 'lumpiness' factor was a big culprit in all the reviews. Apparently, the quality of what J.C. Penney's sells isn't that great.

I just wouldn't keep it. It will only get worse.

You can try to even it out by sticking it in a dryer with tennis balls.
