Anyone have any recommendations for a neurologist that specializes in Autism in the Long Island/NY area??? I've tried a few places for recommendations but no one has replied.
Mt. Kisco might be far depending on where exactly you are located but
Dr. Jay Selman was great

Did you call the Cody Center at Stonybrook? They have tons of resources and can direct you to a doctor (among other things).
If you need someone more specific to call, PM me and I'll get you a name when I get to work on Monday. I'm sure my boss will be able to provide one (she's a psychologist with a specialty in Autism).
Not sure how old your child is. If he or she is younger, I would recommend a developmental pediatrician or psychiatrist over a neurologist. Dr. Cecelia McCarton at the McCarton Center in NYC is excellent, though not inexpensive. (www.mccartoncenter.com) On Long Island, in Nassau County, I would recommend the Faye J. Lindner Center.(http://www.northshorelij.com/NSLIJ/autism) They offer many different assessments, therapies and support groups. My son took executive functioning lessons there and it really did help his organization skills. Also, the Lindner Center has reasonable prices. Some of the people from the Lindner Center split off and opened the Aspire Center in Melville. They are also very good. http://www.aspirecenterforlearning.com/Groups.html Additionally, some of the Lindner staff specialize in girls with ASDs which is a hard specialty to find. My own child sees Dr. Alexander Kolevzon at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC and I think he is fabulous.
(http://www.mountsinai.org/profiles/alexander-kolevzonid=0000072500001497170212) The one place that did not impress me was the Cody Center. The testing was brief and perfunctory---they only did an ADOS--- and they started telling me DS should stay in high school until he is 21. DS is 17 and entirely on track to graduate with an advanced diploma! Good luck and feel free to message me if you have more questions.
You might be able to find out about support groups through the AHA (http://www.ahany.org). I think they have groups and I believe the Cody and Lindner Centers do as well. Also, check out the Mid Island Y JCC or the Sid Jacobsen Y. I think they have support groups.

Last time I checked, he was no longer at this address/phone. He sees patients in the Bronx at the Martin Luther King Jr. clinic (or something like that). He also sees in-patient only (used to see out-patient) at Blythedale children's hospital.
