Netflix just raised their prices again... there goes my budget!

We are modifying our account. We were being very inconsistent in watching the DVD's we did receive. DH wants to switch to streaming. I figure if we miss the DVD option, we can always add it back. My husband likes the tech aspect of being able to stream. I could take it or leave it.:confused3

So instead of our bill going up by $5...we will reduce it buy a few bucks.

This is exactly what we've decided too -- I was actually set to just cancel it altogether. However, DH and DD (ok, maybe I do every now and then too) really enjoy watching it on the Roku/Wii whenever they want, so for now, we'll downgrade in August and see how it goes.

I cancelled. I don't use mine enough to justify the higher prices.

I told the rep I was "beating the rush" as I didn't want to be on hold for hours after the prices went into effect

Your library has great lending policies. Ours, you only get the movies for 4 days & can renew twice. We're super slow watching movies, so we almost always end up returning them w/o watching them.

We haven't had any problems with "adult" movies, but ALL the movies in the children's department (we check out ~4 every week) are totally scratched up & skip. It's become almost more of a pain than it's worth... I've been picking up DD's favorite at consignment shops, ebay & Craigslist when I see them so I don't have to deal with the skipping.

How far are you from Cuyahoga County? All of our materials circulate for 3 weeks. Are you able to use SearchOhio or OhioLink? You could inter-library loan some really good items from other systems!

Did I read the blogpost incorrectly? How did the OP come up with a new price of $20. The way I read it, it would be $15.98 per the second to last paragraph:

"Now we offer a choice: Unlimited Streaming for $7.99 a month, Unlimited DVDs for $7.99 a month, or both for $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). We think $7.99 is a terrific value for our unlimited streaming plan and $7.99 a terrific value for our unlimited DVD plan."

The bottom line price is dependent on which plan(s) you go with. We had the 3 DVD's out at a time + Unlimited streaming. Paying a bit over $20 (including taxes and fees). We have now changed it to 2 DVD's out at a time + Unlimited streaming to keep our montly cost the same as it's been since the LAST price increase.

I know they have to do what they have to do for buisness and to make money...but I think it's absurd that our monthly price would have gone up like $5 (before taxes and fees).

I'm probably the only person on the planet that this worked out well for. We went from 3 DVDs at a time w/streaming (around $20 ) to 2 DVDs at a time ($11.99). We have dial up so we never used the streaming option.

That said just a reminder to those who feel like they don't use Netflix all of the time - we put our account on hold for months at a time. Then when we start it back up again we run it for a month or so and it feels "new/ exciting". For a bit we were heading towards "Netflix burnout".

Also for us a lot of months a quick trip to RedBox is easier/ cheaper and does the job just as well.
