I've been lurking around here for a while. And you all seem so supportive of each other so I'm sticking my toe in and getting ready to take a plunge.

I see there are a whole lot of plans being worked on here. I am going to do the Weight Watchers Points Program (without actually paying for WW and going). You all will be my WW guides.

I need to lose about 50 lbs, but I need to start with at least 10 and then can move on.

Let's see...what else can I say?

Start from the beginning...I am officially Elizabeth, but like to go by Liz here (although I am also known as Beth). I am 5' 1" and...go on and say it...I weigh 168. (God I hate typing that number). I've been on WW before and did well with it my first time around (lost 30 lbs, but then I started higher than 168).

I eat not because I am hungry, but because I am bored, lonely, need to be comforted, tired, sad...well you get the idea.

I'm usually pretty good till I get home at night and then...WHAM! Let's eat! Let's eat poorly!

I do exercise. I try to walk at least 5 times a week. Usually for 30-40 minutes in the morning (depending on time constraints). I know that if I don't do it first thing, I'm not going to do it (an attitude that I need to change). I also live in a hilly area -- no matter which direction I walk I always have to end my walk going up hill!

I'm not only here to lose weight, but to become an all over healthier person. Life has definitely handed me lemons over the last few years and even though I've tried to make lemonade -- well the lemonade can get pretty sour and pretty tiring too (I mean who wants Lemonade all the time? And I don't even like lemonade!). My stress level has been high since May 8, 2001 (the day we knew my husband would lose his job -- and he has been unable to find one since). Being unable conceive a much wanted child (and going through all the fun treatment that my insurance would allow) wasn't fun and the current process of trying to adopt can be a roller coaster ride too.

To top it off...our bathroom has been invaded by ants which has the pest control company stumped AND I'm having a horrible day at work (love it when the boss says there's no excuse for my screw up after 4 years. And he's right, but I wish he didn't say it. I also hate the fact that when I get upset, frustrated or even mad the tears just flow. It's not very "mangerial"). Add up that due to the cold weather business has been SLOW, which puts more pressure on me AND I'm due for a review in 2 weeks.

All of this will NOT drive me to eat today. It's almost 3:30 and I have successfuly stayed away from the vending machine. Now if I can just make it through tonight without being a piggy (and then the next day and the next day. It's an ongoing process...I know that).

Any way...that's me. I'm hoping to start a WISH Journal which I plan on not only being about what I eat, but what I encounter. It should make for fun reading (if anyone out there wants to read it).

Oh, and special thanks to Wovenwonder. She got me back on the Dis after some technical difficulties (she got the ball rolling for me -- and Nativetxn really pulled it all along). Now I figure I "owe" her. She's done one heck of a job on this board. Now I need to show her (but more importantly myself), that I can do this too.

So now I've opened myself up to all this...It's time to become a "loser" ;)

Welcome to WISH Liz

There is so much support and encouragement here that when you are feeling down just come here and everyone will cheer you up. Don't be afraid to join in. You will get so many ideas of what to do with WW. You made the first step coming here and that is a great accomplishment. Now come and join about of "losers".

Don't forget to grab yourself a member clippie. (See the top of the threads for directions.)

Welcome Liz! I'm new, too! ;)
It was scary typing out everything for me, as well. Good luck on getting healthy!! You can do it!
:) :bounce:

Welcome Liz! It is difficult to lose weight - but we are all here to support each other. Hang in there!

I'm so glad you decided to join us Liz! It will be nice to have another DIS Friend as part of my support group! This is 'simply put' the friendliest place around! You will never regret making this decision.
:D

Can't wait to read your journal!!

Okay, sounds like a stressful couple of lemons were dumped on your doorstep- well I can affirm that all these LOSERS here will add non-caloric sugar to that mix and you'll come out GREAT!!

Your walking is AWESOME- check out the thread for JANUARY 2005- over 30 of us are committing to meet in WDW for a 1/2 marathon ( most walking but some may break into a jog)....it's a goal worth checking out.

I think a big key to my weight loss (15 pounds since 4/1) has been no eating after 6pm- I drink lots of water- sprinkle lemons in it or splash cranberry juice in it and I'm okay- making sure you have fresh fruits/veggies on hand cuts down the cravings too!

And lastly- post whenever you need a pick-me-up and share your ups and downs- this place is a great deterrent for cravings!! And you can't forget to mention those great clippies!!!

WELCOME!!!!
Tara

Nothing to be scared about on this board! :) Welcome to WISH  Glad you have joined us!! You will find lots of support and encouragement here along with friendly people with great advice!! :):) Nice to see you! :)

Glad to have you here and feel free to open up to the group anytime. We are here for each other.

Welcome!!! This is a great place to be. This board is so supportive. Maybe the focus is healthy eating, but I believe that it applies to your overall life.

I understand the lemons. I have a life were I have to work twice as hard as anyone else to accomplish half the results. (At least that is how it seems to me). I have noticed since I have been on this board for the past three weeks, not only do I feel healthier (lost six pounds and exercising), I feel better emotionally.

I hope that we can provide you with some much deserved support and encouragement.

Thank you, thank you! Just going to do some quick posting and will then go do my 5 lb weight lifts.

I am "pointing" everything -- which allows me to have my much "needed" chocolate. 26 points today (I am allowed 27).

I need all your support, so thanks for welcoming me!

Annie&Hallie's Mom, welcome! I don't know about you, but I've found diet jello and fat free cool whip to be a real lifesaver! ;) Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your point of view) I can't tolerate chocolate any longer, so it's not an issue. :D

Liz...welcome to the Wish Boards!!! I have been out of the loop for a week or so, but I am glad you came out of lurking!!!

Keep us posted on your progress.

Tracy

Welcome, Liz:wave:

I'm glad you're here with us on WISH!!! This is just the most caring and supportive group of people that I've ever met! I know you will get the support you need to help you through the rough times.

It sounds like you are already making a great start. You have a wonderful attititude and that will make all the difference! I can't wait to read your journal!

Liz, I want to welcome you to our "family" of WISHer's. Really, that is what we are...a big family that supports and cares about one another. So, you see, there is really nothing to be nervous or scared about! I really think you can do this. I can tell because you have thought about it and you have a plan. I want to lose almost as much as you do, and sometimes it's hard to think about the total weight you want to lose, so start small. Break it down into small parts. Take it a day at a time. It gets easier once you get into the swing of it, and everyone is here to cheer you on!
