Is it possible to negotiate your lease? Ihave been in the same apt. for almost 6 yrs. Because of the econmy, some of the apt. units in mt complex are renting for less than i pay. The people in the unit next to me moved in last yr and are paying 80.00 less per month than i am. When my lease expires i know they are going to offer me a renewal at the same rate i am paying now. But I was thinking of asking if the could give me the lower rate that my neighbors are paying.?? I want to stay in this complex becasue I love it, but if i can get a lower rate, that would be great.

You can negotiate anything. If I were you, I'd go in armed with a different apt complex that you like - what they are charging (hopefully less) - and suggest that you would consider moving there unless they could match it. Wouldn't hurt to mention the other tenants that are paying less than you for the same amenities either in your complex. Potentially consider signing a multi-year lease if they make a good enough offer, as well. Landlords are hurting, too!
