Negative responses about taking my 22 month old

DS6 was 21 month the first time he went to WDW. He had a blast! We tried to keep to his schedule for meals & took an afternoon rest, but he was a trooper! He loved (still does)Space Ranger Spin, and as soon as we got to the gates of MK all week, he would start jumping up and down saying "Shoot the batterbies!"

She may not remember, but you will! Have a great time!

Highlights of our trip when she was 17months old.
-"ice, ice" she loved the ice machine

LMAO!! My GS Loved the hallway at the Boardwalk Villas and the elevator, he would laugh as soon as we walked out the door of the rooms! So funny how really easy they are to please, it's when they get older that they are so demanding!!

I didnt read all of the responses but i wanted to tell you, i have taken my children around that same age and it was great! They LOVED it! Took naps in the stroller mostly, sometimes back in the room. We are a family that takes our kids everywhere, my brother on the other hand is different. to each his own i guess.
My advice, take it slow, i always make a plan but once we are there, we go with the flow. Good luck and have fun!

The allears newletter this week discussed this exact topic! When is the right time to take the kids?!?

We chose wait until the kids were older, BUT only because we assumed it was a one-time trip and we wanted them to be able to remember it and for the adults to get the most out of it as well. As it happens, we all loved it so much we are going back for the second time five years later.
I wouldn't let folks bother you though. I'd just tell them "that's why we are going with reinforcements." Really, are they trying to say that FOUR adults can handle ONE child??? Have a great trip.

Go. Have fun. My DS was 6 years old the first time he went. It was our first family vacation in years. We went twice that year. He had good memory retention from the spring break trip to the summer trip. Went again two years later, age 8, and his memory was extremely selective. So much of it was brand new all over again.

And THEN. Get this. We are looking through the photopass pictures from the age 8 trip after we got the CD in the mail. He says to me, "How come you didn't tell me the castle changed color?":rotfl:

No one remembers everything that they do. The point of going on family vacations is to spend time together. To strengthen family bonds. To create memories that may or may not last for all members involved.

But likely, the feelings created, fun with mom and dad, will be like a seed planted that will last forever and yield fruit as the idea that being with mom and dad can be fun, exciting, offering new experiences, and doing things with these people in new places can reinforce feelings of protection and caring from you in unfamiliar places that will last you in good stead as the years go by.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

The trip when my DS was 11 mos. is one of the most memorable events of my life.
People said that exact same stuff to me. I told them I wasn't taking HIM to WDW. I was going and he 'had' to come along.

We took DD just before she turned 2 and then just before she turned 3. We're going this year just before she turns 5.

The first two trips we alternated one resort day for each park day for a week. DD did enjoy the resort as much as the parks, but who cares. She loved the characters.

I can't wait to go this year now that she's in the princess phase.

I wouldn't think it was nice to take a kid who can't remember if that is going to be their only WDW trip. But for those of us who plan to go again there's nothing wrong and plenty right with taking really little ones.

OMG people need to relax. We took my nephew when he was 19 months. He still remembers stuff. He loved the characters, esp their big noses lol. And he rode POTC and other stuff like that. So I say go for it.

We took my DD right on her 2 y/o bday last year coincendentally for a wedding as well, and boy am i thankful for that wedding!

We had been apprehensive about it before due to the age and such but OMG it was such a wonderful trip even if we did have to ride Aladdins carpet about 40x.

To say they wont rememeber is crazy as my DD requests to look at Mickey pictures almost every day and lights up with phrases of "minnie! i met her!" we are so excited that her enthusiasm alone has made us book a quick trip Feb 21 before our 2nd child is due in June

have a magical trip!

Ignore them!!! Take your DS and enjoy yourself! They are right that he might not remember this trip.....but you will! Those are precious memories that will be forever eched in your memories. Hugs and have fun!

I think 22 months is a great age! People don't seem to believe me when I say this but even our 5 month old seemed to enjoy our 8 days at Disney. She just looked around at everything and was so content the whole time.

if you don't take them when they are little than you don't make memories like this.....

Congratulations on your trip! You sound verye xcited. Good for you. I posted recently about our first trip with my 20-month-old son. We had been wanting to take him to Disney since well before he was born, and we both love Disney ourselves. I didn't care what people thought and we took him. I don't regret it, but it wasn't all sweetness and light, either. Here's my post, in case you are interested in a little balance from someone who apparently missed out on the pixie dust distribution these other lucky posters received : ) :

Hope you have fun!!!

We are leaving next Sat with my DS who's 8 and my DS who will turn 2 on 2/27. He may not be able to go on th big rides but heck, he's free to get in the parks and will probably get excited about all the "little" things that DS8 won't.

im taking my boys in 24 days lol
and theyre 15 months and 3 months

ignore them and have a great time

You will have a blast!!!

We were in Anaheim for a work conference and took my son who was 3 and my daughter who was 16 months. The pictures are priceless! My daughter enjoyed everything - the flowers, the ducks, the fountains. She was SO curious!

My youngest son (who wasn't born yet for the Anaheim trip) had his first trip in utero (I was 20 weeks pregnant). We went right after his 1st birthday and again when he was 19 months. He couldn't even walk for either trip. He loved it! Of my 3 kids he was the best-behaved both times!!! It was such a pleasure. He was a little afraid of the characters the 2nd time (at 19 months) but did great. We're planning another trip in August and he'll be just over 2.

People think I'm crazy for taking my kids back to Disney but we just love it there! We have fun and so do the kids. Tell the nay-sayers that they don't get it!!!

The first time I took my first DD she was just 4 months older than yours. It was so magical! Everything is real and amazing to them. She's 5 now and we've gone every year and that was my favorite one. She could go on plenty of rides and had no fear in anything like she did the following year. It was just awesome. When anyone has anything to say about taking a child that young I think the best response is that you will enjoy it and the child is free anyway. How can you argue with that? My profile picture is from that trip along with many more that I just find priceless.

We took DD to DL for her first birthday and she had 3 trips under her belt by the time she turned 2. Last year we took her to WDW when she was just 2 1/2 and had a blast. She still remembers details of the trip such as swimming in the pool, the hula dance at 'Ohana and meeting the princesses at Akershus.

She is a Disney nut and the pictures we have of her during our Disney trips are some of our favorites. The look of joy and wonderment in her eyes is worth everything. Enjoy your trip!
