needing new camera suggestions

Hi All!

I am looking into getting a new digital camera before our trip, simply do not want to take our good Nikon every day and have to worry about it!

What kind of camera do you use? What do you like about it? Any special features?

I am open to all brands and types! Send them my way! Thanks in advance!

I lugged my Nikon around WDW for 8 years with 2 lenses and a flash, and it finally became a pain in the neck(literally) 2 years ago I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 (old model now) and I just keep it in it's holster on my belt and it is the smartest thing I could have done. It is easy to use and takes excellent images. I don't know where your are but if there's a Costco you can check them out and they have a 90 day no questions asked return policy so if you see one you like you can try it out and if you like it your set, if not try another one!
This year we are going for Christmas so I will more than likely bring both cameras since it's our 1st Christmas there. But barring special circumstances smaller and lighter is better!

I just got a waterproof camera - so no worries for splash Mt or getting front row at fanstasmic -- even to the waterparks

I have a Canon 50D and can feel your pain! Although I didn't take the extra flash or lens. The camera was heavy enough. I also have the Panasonic Lumix and love it. Great camera, great pics!

I always take our small point and shoot, but end up using my Nikon D-50 (it's a dinosaur I know) the most b/c the pictures are just the best. For my birthday this year, I'm asking for a Nikon D3100...and to get it a week early since we'll be in Disney on my birthday. I'm hoping my prince is able to come thru for me!!

Ugh! I need a new camera too! I currently have the Sony cybershot and hate it! It takes terrible pics at night and the zoom in less then acceptable. I am hoping to get the new cannon powershot before August. I had this camera before and LOVED it, but then it got stolen!

It does not take good pictures at all. I'm reading this tfread with hopes of suggestions for a good camera to buy down the road.

Thing is...I used to ALWAYS carry both my BIG camera and my little point and shoot and 9 times out of ten I grabbed my BIG camera because I wanted a better shot....so now I only take my BIG camera I put in a plastic bag to protect it from water and toss it in the backpack...it's no worries...of course the hubs totes the backpack, but he never complains.

I had a Sony Cybershot Ts1, but actually bought another one. This one I LOVE! The HX7V!

Took a picture of my living room with only my desklamp behind me and the entire room was shown - 22 feet total - so the flash is MUCH MUCH better!

Has 2 different burst modes - have finally gotten really nice photos of my daughters dancing. Am looking forward to trying it for 4th of July Fireworks.

Has 2 different "intelligent" modes, so it can figure out flash, aperture, etc according to lighting conditions, what you're shooting, etc. If that isn't good enough, has a manual mode.

Can take stills while shooting video. Have to work on this one, though. Tried it during my daughter's dance routines and couldn't get it to work, but was able to when reading the manual.

I've already taken over 2,000 photos on it (obviously, haven't kept every one) and I've only had it for a little over a month.

My biggest complaint is that the movies it takes have to be converted before they can be watched on anything other than the camera. It took me a while (plus needed tech support) before I got it working.
