Need your opinions please on OKw 15 year

Like any other investment (OK, DVC is not really an investment) it is good to diversify. None of us really knows for sure whether the extension will be a good thing or a bad thing. the time is so impossibly far in the future and there are just so many variables. I choose to extend on one contract (The smaller one, 50 points) and not extend on the larger one, (230 points). :confused3

Hi all!

I'm a veteran DVC member (joined in Dec. '91) at somewhere around $51 pp. Adding the extension on to points that cost me so little still only puts me at $66 pp which is far below any of the resale amounts. Even at $73 pp for a current resale, that puts a value of $88 pp, less than the DVC amount of $96 pp. Worth it for the older contracts which were cheap? Maybe.

I'm another NO for our 270 OKW points. I have kids that might be able to use the contract, but I have to decide if they are going to be able to afford all the dues when I die. At least for now the answer is NO, so I'm going to pass. Right now I'm paying over $100 a month in dues, so I'm not even sure I can afford that once I retire, let alone passing that debt along to my kids. I will probably end up selling all my contracts--give the kids the cash, and let them enter voluntarily into their own debts.;)

IMHO, you're not looking at this quite right. Your existing OKW is an example of a sunk cost. It is a done deal, it will not change. Don't be tempted to "add" that together with the extention for the "purchase" total. Whether or not you are paying more or less total than someone else is irrelevant. Whether you paid $50 per pont for your original OKW contract or whether you just bought in at $92 thru Disney, from here on out that is ancient history. The only thing that figures into the equation is the extention cost, and that is the same for everyone.

Paying $15 now in hopes of getting a return in resale value at some point in the future is a real gamble. That is a high premium for points that will not be coming for another 35 years from now. Now if you are very young and you really want your contract to end 15 years later then maybe it is worth it, but don't pay in now soley for a higher resale later.... just my 2 cents.

DW and I have discussed this. In 2042 we will both be pushing our mid to upper 90s or daisies. We have been members since 1994 and if we want to invest another $4650.00 (310 points) we would most likely buy a small contract at BCV or BWV that we can use now. I could care less about the resale since in our opinion, we have already gotten all of our initial investment out of our usage to date. Any money we get out of a sale would be considered gravy and we are not counting on it.

We likely won't be around when either the original date or the extended date rolls around. But we are going to do the extension for our children, grandchildren and yet to be born great-grandchildren. Its not just about us.
