We are currently planning our very first WDW family vacation. Actually it is our first family vacation, ever. My husband and I were there in 1999 for our honeymoon without kids. Here's the deal... our original plans included staying at the ASsports but then we started thinking that camping would be fun, too. We could borrow my in-laws camper and drive saving on the air fare. (I figured that by the time you add in the gas from Pa along with the site reservation it will cost just about the same as AS.) Here's my question...Do you think it would be worth it to camp being our first time? Would we really get to experience all that Disney World has to offer in both the parks and the campground during the time of our stay?(January)Is it worth it to drive all the way from Pa with an 8, 5, and 16 month old?
Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!

If you can fly and stay at AS, then that is the way to go. A 24 hour drive towing or driving a camper that is not yours is not the way to spend two days probably three, of your vacation (Down and Back) not to mention the stress of the driver. However if that's the way the budget works then driving and camping at Disney is much better that no Disney at all. If you can, fly and stay on site.

Hmmm...first trip. Make it a good one so everyone enjoys it.

Fly and stay on site. You have real little ones and it would seem you'd want to make things as convenient and hassle free as possible.

That long drive itself seems like a downer and I can't see where the little ones would get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Save the camping trip for another time.

Enjoy.

I would vote to fly and stay at the AS. The AllStar Resorts are very family friendly. We had a wonderful experience there! If you are able to fly, it maximizes your time actually at WDW, and probably less stressful for you with small ones on such a long trip!

Maybe save the FW trip for when the kids are a little older.

I agree that you should fly & stay at the AS. :D

I'm probably a little (okay, a lot!) prejudiced, but I'd rather stay in FW than anywhere! I visited the All Stars once, and it was a nice motel. Fort Wilderness is heaven--so much to do and see!

However (there is always one of those...) if you are going on a park commando type of trip or a short trip--fly and enjoy the All Stars. If you can go and enjoy the drive and the campground, then enjoy that. And if you stay at the AS, take the kids to visit FW--the petting zoo, the pony rides, the campfire program--and maybe you'll try FW next time.

We love FW also - it's one of our favorite places to stay. I suggested AS because it's their first trip. If it was a choice between a FW cabin & the AS then definitely a cabin, but considering she would still be doing cooking, some cleaning, etc., I thought AS would be a better choice this trip! JMO! ;)

My opinion?? Go for AS...I think FW is just almost too much work with that many kids..you are going for Disney World...not for camping...you can camp at home :)
Also...if you want to go to FW...check out their campfire...then go back to the comfort of a room and beds :)
I do like camping...but especially with that little one...and being worn out at the parks...I'd want the room :)

Thank you everyone for your input. I think that DH and I have decided to stay at AS and visit FW this trip. Then we will decide what to do on our next trip. Thanks again.
