I'm starting to figure out where we are going to eat this trip. I've been to WDW before, but this trip my DD and I are doing the dining plan so I need to have a nice balance of TS and CS restaurants. It will be me and my 18yo daughter. She's not a real picky eater, but does have her likes and dislikes (like we all do I suppose).

For table serve I have Spoodles, Boma (breakfast) and Boma (dinner). We wanted to go to Prime Time Cafe, but it looks like it will be closed our whole trip. We'll be there 6 nights, so I need 2-3 more TS restaurants (3 if I find that Prime Time really will be closed the whole trip).

I'm thinking maybe going to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner. Last trip we went for lunch and the place was too quiet, but dinner might be better.

Our appetites are not real big and I'm thinking that we'll probably share some counter serve meals. That will free us up to both try more places and get some breakfasts out of the plan.

For counter serve at Epcot I'm thinking the Land food court (have a vegie Cuban sandwich) and the Tangierine Cafe Vegie Platter. Also, can the nachos at the counter serve place in Mexico be ordered as a counter serve meal?

We probably won't need a place at AK since we will have just eaten breakfast at Boma that morning and will probably eat at Spoodles that evening for an early dinner before going to Epcot.

I do need a place or 2 (TS and/or CS) in MGM since we'll be spending some time there.

Is Beaches and Cream a TS or CS restaurant? Looks like they have a grain based vegie burger, which I very much prefer to the Boca burgers (I can only eat 1/2 a Boca if I put a bunch of toppings on and and am very hungry...).

At MK we'll try the noodle bowl at the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. Also I usually eat at Columbia Harbour House, but I didn't seem to like their chili the last time that I had it as when they used to serve it in a break bowl.

Any other suggestions would be great!

Thanks, Linda

I forgot to mention Downtown Disney. I love Earl of Sandwich. Don't know that it's such a great use of the meal plan since the sandwiches are inexpensive, but I know we'll eat there at least once.

Also, Wolfgang Pucks CS restaurant looks good.

Dates for 50's Prime Time closure - Jan 4-28.

Beaches and Cream is a table service.

You have the 2 places I was going to suggest .. Boma and Spoodles. Do you like seafood? Flying Fish is very good. They have a good noodle bowl at Kona Cafe, too.

Nope, no seafood.

I'm really hoping that the restaurants allow us to split some of the table serve meals on the dining plan. I know that at Spoodles if we each get an appetizer, entree, beverage, and dessert that we won't be able to eat half the food. Last year my DH and I went there and shared 2 appetizers and got one entree and we couldn't finish it all (and my DD's appetite is a lot smaller than my DH's).

Bumping this back up.

I must be missing some places that would be good!

Hi! Let me preface this by saying I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian and I LOVE to eat in WDW!!!

The veggie burger at B&C is more like a boca style. See here:

At MGM, you can get a kick butt meal at Mama Melrose. 50sPTC also has a vegetarian stuffed pepper.

At Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace, here is what the tofu bowl looks like:

If you want a superb vegetarian TS meal, try Jiko. It is our favorite!

The Tangeriene Cafe veggie platter is really really good!
Also, they have a vegetarian menu at San Angel Inn...if you go to the Cantina for counter service, they are good at creating vegetarian versions of many of their offerings.

Columbia Harbour House's Lighthouse Sandwich and Vegetarian Chili are some of our favorites...but we've never been able to get that bread bowl!

Beaches and Cream is also Counter Service but either way not good quality. Veggie burgers are very dry.

I'll cross Beaches and Cream off our list. Besides not being very good it looks like a terribe value with the dining plan.

I would try Jiko, but I'll have to show my DD the menu. It's counted as 2 credits with the dining plan and I don't know if she's like it well enough. That's why I was thinking Boma since we can both get what we'd like.

I do like the stuffed peppers at Prime Time Cafe, but it does look like it will be closed when we are there.

I'll check out the Mama Melrose menu. I know we've eaten there before, but it's been awhile. How does that compare to the Epcot Italy restaurant?

T&B you've seen my thoughts elsewhere, but here are some more random thougts

- Trails End - they will make you a ton of food and even brought a giant fruit plate to my table which they insisted on boxing up for me to take back to my resort

- veggie burgers - haven't met one I've liked at WDW as they are mostly Boca, EXCEPT GF Cafe. They make a grain one there.

- any of the steakhouses make a great veggie plate with starches

- Le Cellier - loved the deconstructed lasagne but it's off the menu now

- Matsonumura Lounge will do great veggie sushi; nice view and very relaxing

- all of my DTD suggestions from another thread (lots to eat there!)

- white bean hummus from the Mara (stock up when you go to Boma if you like it on the buffet - they now offer it at the Mara after I suggested it, and it's a hot seller!!)

- Tony's Town Square - ended up with a great meal here, and could live off the tomato pesto dip they serve with bread

I'm not a huge counter service fan anymore (hate lining up for food) and other than my suggestions on another thread, I don't have great ideas. The veggie sandwich at Columbia Harbour House is good, but it did bite back at me a few hours later.

hope that helps!!!

- Tea at the GF

- Huge veggie sandwich at Tusker House

- they have now returned a veggie entree to the menu at the eggroll stand by Kali River Rapids

I like to visit Everything POP and the Mara to stock up on items for my fridge - hard boiled eggs, hummus, and dips, along with pita chips and veggie sticks. Those are the better food courts, I find, for veggie offerings. Everything POP also does a nice veggie flat bread.

I like Alfredo's, but MM is a different kind of good. I'd even dare to say it is better. Yes, it's better. :)

Wolfgang Puck Express and WP Cafe at Downtown Disney have awesome vegetarian choices. Express counts as a CS meal with the dining plan. The Noodle Station at MK is good also, but the biggest surprise was the veggie wrap at Cosmic Ray's. It was REALLY good.

Jiko has a yummy and huge veggie n grains entree

It is delicious as DW and I can attest

Cheers

Wow, lots of good ideas! Thanks!

I wish that Jiko was not considered a signature restaurant on the dining plan--having to use double the credits really hurts when we're vegetarian and the entrees tend to cost less.

Can't remember if I've had the vegie wrap at Cosmic Ray's. Is it a new menu item? I know I've had the vegie burger, but can't believe I wouldn't have ordered the vegie wrap if it had of been on the menu then.

We will make sure we make it to Wolfgang Puck's counter serve restaurant. Looks good and at least we know we can share counter serve if we're not real hungry.

I'll add Mama Melrose to our list. The menu looks good.

Bavaria, I'm drawing a blank--what is Trail's End. I know I should know that, but... The GF Cafe vegie burger does look good! We've never eaten at Tony's in all these visits to WDW. I'll take a look at that, too. You're not going to be down in mid-January to personally show us all this vegie food, are you? :teeth:

We'll be staying at Pop so I can check out their packaged food. Normally I have a car and can get stuff from the grocery store, but won't this time. It's good to know where to buy some food for the room.

oooh all those questions! :teeth:

I'd love to be your food guide in January and finally meet the famous Tigger&Belle!! Still trying to figure out if/when I am going in December/January. Have a great job but advance planning is pretty much out the window.

Now to the questions/comments.

Trails End is at Fort Wilderness. One day this year I was a little hot and fed up, and couldn't get an ADR at MGM. A fellow german at guest relations highly recommended Trails End (we germans love the wild west theme!)

The lunch buffet was pretty sparse by the time I arrived at 2pm, but they asked what I would like. I suggested maybe just a pasta in tomato sauce, or a veggie sandwich. They brought out a veggie burger with lots of veggies, a plate of cheese tortellini with tomato sauce, and the giant fruit plate. I had been at the buffet getting some salad, and was rather embarassed to come back to all that food!! My server insisted on boxing up all of the fruit for me - in fact, they seemed tickled to do something other than just the buffet.

Wolfgang Puck's is always a good standby. They do change the menu often, but there is usually a veggie sandwich and pasta.

Re Mama Melrose's - I like it better than Alfredo's, which always seems to be a zoo. And the food there is never really hot. I love the pesto dip and crusty bread at MM's. I usually order the penne vegetarian style (a variation of a dish on the menu)

The veggie burger at GF is good, just make sure that they add items - a few times they brought out a dry bun and the patty; most times it has tomato, lettuce, and a nice spread on the bun.

I love the grains and tofu dish at Jiko - it has a mild curry taste. If you do have time after your Boma visit, you should stop by the Mara to see if there are any takeaways.

POP no longer has my favourite sun dried tomato pesto in the to-go counter (which they also serve at Tony's) but it is used on the sandwiches in the sandwich area, so you could ask for a container. (SSR does this too)

The chefs at POP are usually really good at getting veggie items, or hunting something down in the kitchen.

Also you may want to watch out for hidden animals. I got sick 3x after eating the 'veggie' taco salad at POR over a few years. I finally asked and found out that the shell is fried in the same oil as chicken fingers. Same with the shell on the veggie dish at Kona Kafe.

Sorry, brain is a little tired, that LONG post is all I could manage for now!

A few more things....

If you happen upon Wolfgang Puck Cafe, don't be tempted by the pumpkin ravioli. It is made with a meat product basting the ravioli.

I've always wanted to try the veggie burger at GFC but never seem to make our way over there. If you try it, I'd love to hear what you think of it!

We made the mistake of asking for the Garden Galley Salad without chicken at Columbia Harbour House. Hidden under the lettuce were specs of chicken, so beware of this menu item alteration.

And I was able to get Tofutti brand soy ice cream at the Main Street Ice Cream Shop. It is not posted on the menu, you have to ask for it. The chocolate was awesome!

I hate it when restaurants use meat in something like the ravioli when it's not a primary part of the dish. Thanks for the heads up.

Just wanted to subscribe, since I'm a vegetarian too...and reading this thread has made me hungry! It seems like everyone has said most of my ideas, but I'm sure I will think of more later on! It usually isn't that difficult to find good vegetarian food there.
