I need to cancel a package reservation - I am sure that I put the deposit down with a gift card but I don't think I have that particular gift card any longer. How do I know where the refund will go back?

It will go back to that gift card. You may be able to tell them if you call to cancel and they can issue a new gift card, but no guarantees. That's why you should always hold onto the gift cards you use on reservations.

The refund is always be returned to the original form of payment. If this was a giftcard it will go back in that gift card. If you no longer have it you can request a new gift card. Please note you will probably have to escalate the call and it’s considered pixie dust if they do it.

A friend was in a similar situation she said she spent about 3 hours talking to various people before she was told she was being helped this one time. She said it took about 60 days to receive the gift cards.

She was told the reason they do not regularly do this is because of fraud. They have had people cancel someone’s vacation and request the refund on the non original card. That leaves the victims without a vacation or refund.

If you have another reservation, you can have them transfer the deposit from the to-be-cancelled reservation to a reservation you’re keeping, instead of receiving a refund. That’s much easier than having to try to convince them to refund to a different form of payment than you paid with.

Call them to do the cancellation. Before you do it inform them you no longer have the gc. They have a process for this. It will take a while but you will eventually receive a new gift card with the balance on it.

Next time kept the gc and use a sticky note to write on it what you spent and when. (If you have numerous gc you should be tracking all of them in your own spreadsheet.)
