Need to cancel one day of our reservations - what are our options?

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone knowledgeable will have the answer for me - I always end up so confused when on the phone w/ MS.

We have a 5 night (c/i sun, c/o fri) reservation that uses 55 points (11 per night) and I have decided I want to go home one day sooner (c/o thursday). I'd rather not just loose the 11 points, but I'm not sure what our options are at this point.

Our reservation is for May and our use year is June. If I cancelled the res for that night I would need to use the points by May 31 (which I clearly won't), BUT, I don't know if I can transfer them or not b/c I borrowed 5 points from 07 to make this reservation. Will that prohibit me from transferring them to another member?

So - at this time, we have a 25 point contract - we had 25 points banked from 05 - used all of our 06 and borrowed 5 from 07. Can I transfer the remaining 11? (We had no other transfers this uy)

First of all, since you are using banked, current and borrowed points for this reservation, make sure that the 11 points MS frees up when you cancel that one night are "current" ('06 UY) points. You cannot bank or transfer banked or borrowed points so you want to make sure the banked and borrowed points are being used for your reservation and "current" points are freed.

Since you have not transferred any points in or out this UY, you could transfer those 11 "current" points to another member.

With a June UY, you are currently in your 25% banking window (Mar 1-31). Since you haven't banked any other '06 UY points, you could bank up to 6 of those 11 points into your '07 UY. For future reference, your 50% banking window was Dec 1 - Feb 28 -- you would have been able to bank all 11 points up to the end of Feb, assuming you had not banked any other points earlier in your UY. Since you are just 2 weeks past the deadline and we're talking a very small number of points here (banking 11 points vs 6 points), MS might make an exception for you this one time. Just be aware that MS usually only grants one such exception over the lifetime of your membership.

Just to add, that transferring 11 points to someone might be tough. They most likely would have to use them by May 31st also.

And you'd have to find someone willing to use their one and only annual transfer option to get those 11 points.

Since you can bank 6 points anyway, you're only talking about 5 other points. Perhaps about $23 in maintenance fees you would lose.

If you use your super secret once in a lifetime banking option to save 5 points, you can never use that option again, maybe in the future, after add-on purchases, when you might have a lot more points in jeopardy of being lost.
